Otahuhu

St. Joseph’s Hall was completely crowded on last Wednesday evening, when 'practically every parishioner was present to wish farewell to the Rev. Father Taylor, who, for the past ten months, had been in charge of the parish. An enjoyable musical programme was contributed to by Miss Henry (pianoforte solo), Mrs. Henry, Misses D. McGee, D. Willstead, and De Sylva, Messrs. J. O Connell, J. Gillies, and J. Best (songs). During the evening Father Taylor sang a Latin version of Father O Flynn,’ and in response to a recall he again sang that popular song as written in English, Speeches were made by Messrs. Gillies, J. and T. O’Connell, Goodwin. Willstead, Rogers, Graham, and Ryan eulogistic of the ‘guest of the evening, and on behalf of the parishioners, Mr. Ryan in well-chosen and neatly-expressed terms presented Father Taylor with a gold watch and albert with cross attached, with the fervent hope (he said) that the recipient would be blessed by God with health and happiness wherever his sphere of devoted duty might be. They were all grieved at parting with him, and whenever he returned to Otahuhu, whether to reside or on holiday, he would always find a warm welcome. Father Taylor, in thanking the people of Otahuhu for their present, and for the kind sentiments expressed towards him, said he would always remember, them in his prayers, and their highly valued gift would be always cherished by him.
