Timaru
(From our own correspondent.) March 12. The half-yearly Communion of the Hibernian Society took place on Sunday last, when a full attendance of the members approached the Holy Table at the 7.30 a.m. Mass. At the evening devotions there was a very large congregation, when a panegyric on St. Patrick was preached by Rev. Father Herbert, S.M. On Friday evening the members of the choir met at the presbytery for the purpose of bidding farewell and making a presentation to Mrs. T. King, a member of the choir, prior to her departure from Timaru. The presentation of a silver purse was made by the Very Rev. Dean Tubman, S.M., who referred to the valuable services Mrs. King had rendered while a member of the choir. Senior-Sergeant King, on behalf of Mrs. King, suitably acknowledged the presentation, after which a pleasant time was spent in music and other sociable diversions. During the week Mrs. King was the recipient of a handsome prayer-book from St. Anne's Guild, of which society she has been an active and energetic member during her residence in Timaru. A retreat for the Children of Mary is to commence on Monday, March 19, and will be conducted by the Rev. Father O'Hare, of Christchurch.
