* To-day (All Souls’ Day) Masses wore celebrated in the ■Cathedral continuously from 6 to 8 o’clock. The 7 o’clock [Mass was a Pontifical 11igh Mass.. 11 is Lordship the Bishop will be engaged during the next few weeps holding his visitation of the southern parishes, commencing in Invercargill on Sunday, November 12, after which he will visit Riverton, NVrey's Bush, and Winton. 11 is Lordship Bishop Verdun returned to town on Tuesday. On Sunday last he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation in Milton to fifty candidates. On Monday he paid a visit to Monsignor O’Leary (Lawrence), whose health has not been too good lately. Wednesday being the Feast of Ail Saints, Masses were celebrated in St. .Joseph’s Cathedral at 6.30, 7, 8, and 11 o’clock, in the North-East Valley church at 7 o’clock, and at Kaikorai and Mornington at 9 o’clock. Very large numbers approached Holy Communion. An entertainment will be given in St. Joseph's Hall on Wednesday evening, November 9. for the pur-' pose of raising funds to help equip the City Stall in connection with the bazaar in aid of the new school. South Dunedin. The promoters of the concert have arranged a splendid programme, and a full attendance is expected. By the death of Lieutenant J. A twill, killed recently in France, the St. Patrick’s Basilica Choir has lost one of its life-members. At the annual meeting, in moving a vote of condolence to his mother and family, Rev. Father Delany expressed the deep regret of choir members at the loss of one of their most promising young men. The annual meeting of the St. Patrick’s Basilica Choir was held in the school hall on Thursday, October 26, the Rev. J. P. Delany presiding over a record attendance. The secretary’s report disclosed a very satisfactory state in all matters connected with the choir, with special mention of the work of the conductor (Mr. W. A. Atwill), whose services to the choir are highly appreciated, and Miss K. Hannon (organist),

whose playing is of great value to the choir and is deservedly praised by lovers of saqred music in the congregation also to those who have given their services when required. Three members (Messrs. L. Goughian, A. Clark, and A. Ahern) are at present on active service. The election of officers resulted as follows— President, Rev. Father J. P. Delany ; conductor, Mr. W. A. Atwill; hori. secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. L. McEvoy ; organist, Miss K. Hannon; committee— Mrs. M. Davis, Misses N. Rodden, M. Keogh, and E. Bevin, Messrs. W. Tonner and J. P. Rodden. After the meeting a musical programme was gone through, Misses K. Hannon and M. O’Kane contributing piano solos, and Mrs. G. Ryall, Misses K. Leonard, G. Davis. M. Fenton, M. Brown, and Messrs. Atwill and Tonner, songs, etc., all of which were encored. Refreshments, provided by the ladies, were handed round during the evening. HOLY CROSS COLLEGE.
