Palmerston North

In the recent casualty list appears the name of Private James Joseph Breen, of Palmerston North, formerly reported wounded and missing, and now believed to be dead. He was the son of Mr. T. Breen, now of Waitotara, and at one time a well-known police constable in Palmerston North. Private Breen received his education at St. Patrick’s College, ■Welling’ton, and when war broke out he was a law clerk on the staff of Messrs. Guy and Oram, Palmerston. He had been about four years in Palmerston and was a member of I. Battery. .. Private Breen saw some of the heaviest fighting on Gallipoli, and has been missing since the beginning of August. He was a young man of much promise. He took a great interest in Church matters, being a prominent member of the Catholic Federation, and also a member of the choir. Much sympathy is felt for his father in the sad circumstances, though proud that his son died for his King and Country. ; . v ' . “ ’ -• ■
