Sunday, March 26, was a red letter day in Fairlie, as we had the pleasure of welcoming his Lordship -Bishop Brodie to■ the parish. His Lordship came to bless and open the new presbytery, and this being his first official function since his consecration, we are proud of the fact 'that we were able to receive him so soon. K His Lordship celebrated the 9 -. o’clock Mass, when the members of the newly-formed branch of the H.A. Society in regalia • approached the Holy Table. : In the course of his Lordship’s sermon he congratulated the Hibernians on forming a >. Catholic benefit society in the parish' ■ •• •' r • r , - ■ The ceremony' of opening ; and blessing the new presbytery took place at 2.30 p.m. in the presence of a large number of people. ‘ Very , Rev. Dean Tubman (Timaru) and Rev. Father Kerley (Temuka) were present. _ '.~Pt ■ V.rV-:,. v; ' After the ceremony, Mr. P. Hickey: presented his Lordship with' an illuminated address; on behalf of the parishioners. In the ; course of his reply, his Lordship congratulated the 1 people on their'faith loyalty, the evidence of which he had seen that day. He also

congratulated the Rev. Father Le Petit on the good work he has done during his thirteen years in charge of the parish. On Monday a picnic was held to enable his Lordship to meet all the parishioners. The Bishop remained on the grounds the whole of the day, and had a kindly word to say to everyone. His Lordship left for Timaru on Tuesday.
