, ■' . , V; ’ , April 3. ■ His Lordship Bishop Brodie.. is to celebrate the 7.30 o clock Mass here on Sunday next, and also to preach at the evening devotions. After Mass he is to go to St. Andrews, where he is to bless a set of Stations of the Cross, recently erected in the church there. ' On Sunday there was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from the last Mass. At the evening devotions an appropriate sermon was preached by Rev. Father Herbert, after, which there was a procession, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. . On Wednesday last his Lordship Bishop Brpdie paid his first visit to the Convent of the Sacred- Heart. At -past 7he celebrated Mass, in the convent chapel, andj after breakfast, was received and welcomed by the community, who presented him with a beautiful rochet of hand-made lace, and also some -choicely-bound volumes. The children’s reception and welcome took place in the large reception room, which was tastefully decorated for . the occasion with autumn leaves and ferns, the centre piece being a large shield bearing the coat of arms of his Lordship. After the welcomechorus had been sung, one of the senior girls read an address expressing to his Lordship their pleasure at having him in their -midst, and assuring him of their best wishes and heartfelt prayers that the duties of his new office might be cheered and lightened by God’s richest blessings and by the love and loyalty of his people.. The address, which was in book form, was artistically bound and illuminated by one of the nuns. The rest of the programme consisted of vocal and instrumental items by the pupils. The children’s present took the form of a white satin lily containing a number of sovereigns. . . ; ' . . - ’ • Bishop Brodie, in acknowledging the presentation and welcome, expressed his delight at the hearty reception given him, and also his own pleasure at being able to come and visit them. He asked for a continuance of their prayers to enable him to faithfullv carry out the duties and responsibilities' of the high office imposed on him at: his consecration. "In conclusion, he asked that, as the Apostolic Delegate had not been able, to come to Timaru, the three days’ holiday he had given to the children in other places be added to their Easter holidays. The Bishop and clergv were afterwards entertained at dinner by the .Rev. Mother. ■
