The election of the ..Right Rev. Abbot Catalan, 0.5.8., as Lord Abbot of New Norcia has been officially confirmed. When the news reached New Norcia the abbey bells rang, as is customary on such occasions. '

The Rev. Father Hogan, of Shepparton, Victoria, announced at St. Brendan's Church the other Sunday that the amount of money raised for buildings and improvement in the last five years was £5005 17s 6d, and the present indebtedness is £ll 2s 6d. At a very large meeting of the parishioners it was decided to build immediately an up-to-date primary school. The Very Rev. Father T. Brown, C:SS.R., who replaces the Very Rev. Father P. M. Lynch as Superior of the Redemptorist community at Manila, Philippine Islands, is a native of Dundalk, Ireland. He studied in Ireland, England, and Belgium. He has been on the mission in Ireland and eight years in Australia. He succeeded Father Lynch as Superior of the Monastery at Waratah, and he has given missions all over Victoria and New South Wales. Captain the Rev. A. J. Goodman, M.S.H., who has been appointed chaplain to the Australian Expeditionary Forces for continuous service, left for the front by a troopship on October 4. Father Goodman (says the Freeman's Journal) is the third chaplain given by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart from Australia during the present war. The other two were Captain Rev. J. Gilbert, M.S.H., and Captain Rev. Paul Lynch, M.S.H., who are now at the front. All three were educated for the priesthood and trained for missionary work at the Sacred Heart Monastery, Kensington. Being Australians themselves, they gladly volunteered as chaplains, deeming it ah honor to follow their countrymen to the fighting line, there to give them all possible spiritual aid where they-need it most. Father Gilbert is a native of New Zealand, Father Goodman of West Australia, and Father Lynch hails from Ireland, though Australia is the land of his adoption. The three of them have been appointed for continuous service until the end of the war, and they are the first Australian priests to have received such an appointment. Two of the present chaplain's brothers have already been in active service: Private T. Goodman (W.A.), who has been seriously wounded, and has since returned home in a very critical condition and Private A. Goodman, who is still in the firing line.
