(From our own correspondent.) 'October 11. The new organ, now being erected at St. Patrick's Basilica, is almost completed, and will be formally opened on Thursday evening next with a short recital by Mr. G. Ritchie, of Dunedin. On Sunday next at the eleven o'clock Mass at St. Patrick's Basilica a mission will be commenced by the Redemptorist Fathers. At three o'clock his Lordship Bishop Verdon will lay the foundation stone of the new Catholic church at Windsor.

The opening of the Celtic Tennis Club was held on Thursday afternoon, when there was a good attendance of members and friends. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent, although the weather conditions were slightly unfavorable.

The severe drought of the past eight months was broken last week by copious showers, and the benefit' to the district, which was on the verge of a most serious set-back, is quite incalculable. In the three days on which rain fell, over an inch and a half has been recorded. Prospects for a good season are now very bright, provided the average rainfall is maintained.
