March 2. Mr. Michael Lynskey, well known in this parish, is to be congratulated on obtaining his B.A. degree. The Rev. Mother Regis, of the Sisters of Mercy, Greymou'th, is at present visiting the mother house of the Order in Colombo street. East Sunday morning the Brothers of St. Mary’s Conference of St. Vincent dc Paul Society approached the Holy Table in a body. There was a very large attendance. The collectors for the new church in Papanui are meeting with every encouragement. The fund is being considerably augmented, and this is mainly due to the energy displayed by those who have the matter in hand. During the Lenten season a course of sermons, dealing with the Passion of our Lord, will be preached on Sunday evenings. On Sunday evening last the Rev. Father Hoare, S.M., preached an eloquent sermon on ‘ The Way of the Cross,’ and urged the congregation to practise this beautiful devotion. The fortnightly meeting of the St. Mary’s branch of the Hibernian Society was held in Ozanam Lodge on Monday evening, February 23. The president, Bro. H. J. Johnston, occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance. Two new members were initiated, and three candidates were proposed. Matters dealing with the United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary were discussed, and Bro. Johnston was elected delegate to that body.
