Held Over ■.'•/•'•; Owing to late arrival, a full report of the Auckland reception to Mr. William Redmond, which reached this office on Tuesday, is ', unavoidably held over until next week; and pressure on our space has crowded out letters to the. editor, some interesting sports items, and . a small quantity of other matter. A Popular 'Traveller' W V • m Mr. J. 'J. Moriarty, who for the past ; eight years has been one of the travelling representatives, of the N.Z. Tablet, has decided, very much to our regret, to sever his ; connection with this ■ paper in order to join the firm of'■ Lusk and 1 Moriarty, -architects } who are about to set-up business in Melbourne. '■• The work of a traveller has its drawbacks, but it has also its compensations in the opportunity which it affords of becoming widely known and closely acquainted amongst a large body of people; and in this connection we can 1 safely say that'there ; is ? ho member of the Catholic body in New Zealand who has a wider circle of • appreciative and admiring friends than our popular and? esteemed representative! His absolute straightforwardness and ; integrity, his untiring energy, Hist all-round business

knowledge ,and capacity,. and .his quite exceptional power of .persuasive speech, all combined to make him an ideal traveller; and 'it -is an , act of the barest justice to say that his eight years’/ service on the staff of the Tablet has been ope of the most powerful . factors in building up the splendid circulation, which the paper now enjoys. On the personal side,. Mr. Moriarty, like most of his race, has 1 a way wid’ him ’ j and , his bonhomie, good nature, and genial kindliness of character have made him a welcome ,visitor wherever the duties of his avocation have called him. He has done honest and faithful service for this paper, belongs emphatically to the category ’ of men . who /will be missed. On our own behalf, and oh behalf ’of his countless Catholic friends in-this country, we cordially wish him no end of good fortune and success in his new venture.
