(By telegraph, freon our own correspondent.) ' January 5. His Lordship the Bishop leaves on Friday next for Whangarey. and surrounding districts. His length of stay depends on the weather. Rev. . Father Edge has returned from his short holiday looking much benefited. He is again in active work in the Sacred Heart parish. Very Jlev. Father Gartlan, S.J., preached at the 11 o’clock Mass on Sunday, and directed particular attention to the presence of Catholic Cadets from the south. Last Saturday evening the Marist Brothers of the North Island, with the exception of those of Wellington, entered on their annual retreat at the Sacred Heart College. Rev. Father Creagh, C.SS.R., preached on Sunday night at St. Benedict’s to a large congregation. Father Creagh is at present conducting a retreat for the Sisters of Mercy. The usual monthly Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament took place at the Cathedral yesterday. His Lordship the Bishop presided at Vespers, bore the Blessed Sacrament in the procession, and gave Pontifical Benediction. His Lordship the Bishop, accompanied by Rev. Father O’Doherty, paid visitations to several of the southern districts of the diocese between Christmas and New Year, including Pukekohe, Huntly, Hamilton, Cambridge, Rotorua, Tauranga (where he returns at the end of January to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation), Waihi, Paeroa, and Thames, the whole distance being covered by motor car. The southern Cadets, who attended the Cathedral yesterday morning, were after Mass welcomed at the convent school. Rev. Father Ormond presided, and heartily welcomed them. Bro. Flynn (district president of the H.A.C.B. Society) and Bro. P. J. Nerheny (past president) also spoke Captain Martin (St. Anne’s Cadets) responded. This evening the Hibernians gave an entertainment in the Hibernian Hall. Bro. Flynn presided. His Lordship the Bishop and Rev. Fathers Golden, Edge, and Ormond were present. Bishop Cleary, in an appropriate speech, proposed the toast of the southern officers and Cadets. Captain Martin (Wellington) and Lieutenant Thoms responded on behalf of the Christian Brothers’ Cadets (Dunedin), Marist Brothers’ Cadets, of Christchurch and Wellington. The toast of ‘ The Land of our Fathers,’ proposed by Mr, Sheahan, was enthusiastically received. The company rose and sang * God Save Ireland.’, Mr. P. J. Nerheny, in responding, aroused the greatest enthusiasm. Mr. C. Casey recited Who fears to speak of Ninety-eight Musical items were given by Misses Corrigan and McCaffrey, Messrs. Bourke and Egan. Mr. Harry Hiscocks played the

accompaniments. Lieutenant Thoms proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman, after which the company sang ‘ God Save Ireland,' and concluded with God Save the King.' : .
