September 2. Active preparations are being made to ensure the success of the bazaar in connection with the Ellerslie parish. Rev. Father Williams has invited the Marist Brothers senior Rugby team champions to visit Taumarunui, and give an exhibition match there, ' , 4.i^ X ?i OS I^ 0 ? the Blessed Sacrament took place at the Cathedra! yesterday from the 11 o’clock Mass until after Vespers. In the evening Rev. Father U Maiiey preached an impressive sermon on the ‘ Catholic Church There was the usual procession, followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. At the recent Trinity "College musical examinations, conducted by Mr. Schilsky, the following candidates from St. Benedict's Convent were successful:Higher local—Gertrude Walmsley, 72. Senior grade ' Georgy Smithies, 82 (honors) ; Mary Marriner, 69 : * - Hazel Lucas, 67 Intermediate grade—Mary Matthews, 69. Junior grade—Roderick Potter, 87 (honors) ■ Constance Cosgrove, 83 (honors); Kathleen Caldwell, 75; Florence Morgan, 67; Veda Graham, 66. ~ Application has been made to the Auckland Education Board by Mr. Daniel O’Connor for permission to allow his son, who had won a secondary scholarship.

Rev. Father Holbrook, Adm., addressed the members on ‘Socialism.’ ’ - He showed that Socialism in its truest and widest sense was not opposed by the Church, and for example quoted the Encyclical of his Holiness Pope Leo XIII.
