Mercy, Colombo street, Christcluirch, were successful in the recent teachers’ and civil service examinations : Mary Sommers, full C; Catherine McDonnell, part of C; Margaret Dee, full D; Aileeu Bennett, full D; Annie McDonnell, partial D; Margaret O’Connor, partial D; Mary Gardner, partial D ; Basil Kingan, civil service. The Marist Brothers’ school boys continue to exhibit the same remarkable prowess on the cricket as on the football field. Playing oh Hagley Park in the primary schools’ competition on last Saturday, the St. Albans’ school team, which batted first, were all dismissed for 13 runs— securing five wickets for five runs, and R. Murfitt four for four runs. The Marist Brothers’ team had three down for 132 runs when time was called— Murfitt 45, H. Murfitt 33, J. Flood 22, and Elvy 14 not out; thus winning by seven wickets and 119 runs. • The following pupils of the Sisters of Notre Dame des Missions, Lower High street, were successful in the examination ill musical knowledge - held in December last in connection with Trinity College, London: Upper division, Mary C. Rodgers (junior), Brother Calixtus (third), Brother Charles (fourth), It was decided that the captains of each team and of the Rifle Club be ex-officio members of the executive committee. . ; After a vacation of about three months, the Christchurch Catholic Club resumed its weekly meetings on i last Friday evening. The president (Mr. E. Harper) occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. Owing to the removal of the librarian (Mr., J. Laurenson) to another district, Mr. F. Rowe was elected to that position. Correspondence was read from the executive of the Federated Catholic Clubs , t on . matters connected with the annual conference to be held in Wellington at Easter. The president reported that Mr. R. Dobbin had kindly consented to deliver a lecture on March 20 to which members could invite their friends. He also stated that Mr. M. O’Reilly, a prominent member, intended to leave Christchurch, and that a farewell would be tendered to him on March 27, a sub-committee being appointed to make the necessary arrangements. The question of entries in the Christchurch Literary and Musical Competitions was discussed, and a sub-committee, consisting of the president, Messrs. McKcon, and P. McNamara, was appointed to arrange therewith. The following syllabus was approved : March 13, musical evening, under the direction of Mr. F. Rowe; March 20, lecture by Mr. R. Dobbin; March 27, readings, recitations, and fare-, well to Mr. M. Reilly. After the ordinary business was transacted, a 25-up handicap billiard match was played for prizes donated by the president, resulting in a win for Mr. J. R. Hay ward, with Mr. E. McKeou second.
