July 17. The Rev. Father Creagh, C.SS.R., concluded v the retreat for the Dominican Nuns on Saturday evening last. ■ ■ : &

On Thursday next the Hibernian Band will hold a social gathering in the Victoria Hall. A large number of tickets have already been sold,'and a very successful evening is anticipated.

In connection with the recent visit of the Irish envoy, just on £2OO was collected in Invercargill, and a net amount of £IBO will be forwarded to the New Zealand treasurer. The St. Mary’s Tennis Club held a very successful social in Victoria Hall on the evening of Wednesday, July 12. The first part of the evening was devoted to progressive euchre, and the prizes were won by Miss Katie McGrath and Mr. Durham. At present the Athletic Football Club are leadin'* for the. Galbraith Shield under the S.R.F.U. There is only one more match to play, and should they be successful, they will have obtained the coveted shield for , the first time since they have joined senior ranks. As a junior team they were most successful, winning the junior championship on several occasions, so it is very pleasing to note their present success as seniors. .
