(From our own correspondent.) A social held at Castlecliff on June 15, in aid of the purchase fund for the church section in that suburb, realised a profit of about £ll. Mr. J. Connor was the organising secretary. ' I am informed that steps are to be taken to rebuild almost immediately, the Catholic day school at Aramoho. An energetic committee has been formed, and intends prosecuting vigorously the raising of the necessary funds. .... Coronation Day was fittingly celebrated by the Catholic community of Wanganui. The Wanganui Chronicle, says:' ‘ There was a large congregation at St. "Mary's Church at 11 a.m., when a solemn Votive Mass of the Holy Ghost was celebrated. Rev. Father Moloney was celebrant, Very Rev. Father Holley deacon, and Rev. Father Vibaud subdeacon. As an offertory the choir sang in Latin “God save King George,” and* at the end of the Mass sang “ Te Deum, - the service ending by the choir and people singing “God save the King.” In the course of a happily-worded sermon the Very Rev. Father Holley said; “We are assembled here on this Coronation Day of our King to give outward expression of our hearthelt feelings of loving homage and devoted loyalty to King George the Fifth. This 22nd day of June, 1911, is celebrated as a day of rejoicing throughout the whole world-wide domain of this vast and I venture to say that nowhere is there a greater enthusiasm or greater joy than amongst the faithful subjects of our own dear New Zealand. We are here to congratulate his Majesty in that, with the Sceptre of Dominion he has inherited from his royal father, King Edward the Seventh, the'mantle and prestige of the peacemaker. The negotiations _so successfully begun with the United*- States of America will, we are confident, initiate a new era and secure further triumphs of Peace. We trust that it may be his privilege to bring to many nations the blessings which characterise that crowning grace of civilisation. We heartily join all grateful and loyal subjects of his Majesty in fervent prayer that many years of prosperity and peace, with other blessing that Heaven can bestow, may mark a glorious reign of King George the Fifth and of Queen Mary his gracious consort.” 5 . , The Catholic members of the Territorial Forces and Cadets, in charge of Lieutenant E.
