CHRISTCHURCH CATHOLIC CLUB NOTES

An executive meeting of the Christchurch Catholic Club was held in the club room on Friday evening last, Mr. J. R. Hay ward (president) in the chair. There werealso present Messrs. F. Rowe, F. Quinn, ,j. O'Connor, F. Healy, J. S. Tullock, P. McNamara, and G. Dobbs (secretary). One new member was elected. The sub-committee appointed to choose the most improved debater during the season for the diploma given by the Federated Executive, reported that they had awarded the prize to Mr. P. McNamara, lie having attained the position of best average improvement in debating. It was resolved that a smoke concert be held on Tuesday, December 20, Messrs. F. Rowe, F. G. Mealy, and P. McNamara being appointed a subcommittee to arrange programme lor same. The president reported having received a number of magazines from the Public Library, which was appreciated by tho members. .. Mr. P. If. Blake, 'an old and respected member, has left tor Kaikoura to assist his brother, who is in business there. Members generally regret his departure. Amongst the items in the programme in connection with the Catholic picnic and sports to be held on Boxing Day is a Catholic Club race, and a relay race for the various Catholic clubs and societies. Members willing to take part in these races are asked to send in their names to the secretary early. Members are reminded that a smoke concert will bo held in the club rooms on Tuesday next, December 20- a good programme is assured. '
