OBITUARY

MR. JAMES SEXTON. ih-J\ is wit regret (writes an Auckland correspondent) that 1 report the death of Mr. James Sexton, a colonist of many years standing, and a sterling Irish Catholic Mho always upheld in his quiet, unostentatious way the sacred principles of Faith and Fatherland. He was a native or Searriif, County Clare. At an early age he emigrated to Australia, where he followed the fortunes of the goldfields, and in 1870 he came across to the Otaco holds, whence he found his way to the West Coast, where he resided for a quarter of a century. Eight years ago lie came to Auckland, living privately ever since and making numerous friends. Some months ago he became unwell, and on November 14 ho passed away, fortified by the rites of the Church. Father Edge was unremitting in his attentions to him. until the last. He was visited also during Ins illness, which he bore uncoinplainimdv bv several of the local priests and the Sisters of Merc* The remains were taken to the Church of the Sacred" Heart where, the funeral obsequies were performed. After i Requiem Mass by Rev. Father Edge, assisted bv Rev father Doyle the interment took place at Wai'kumeto Cemetery.
