CONVENT SCHOOL, GREYMOUTH

The anual breaking-up concert given by the children of the Convent school (says the Greymouth Evening Star) goes far to show the outside public the excellent code „f instruction in music and -general knowledge that is mi parted to them by those devoted ladies, the Sisters ..f Mercy. Indeed, it may safely be said that they receive a much more advanced system of training than that afforded in the secular schools, as they are not only thoroughly grounded in the ordinary curriculum, but are taught deportment as well as music and singing, which fits them in after life to take their part ir. society. The Town Hal was packed long before the opening item was given, bu; the singing of the chorus ' The band ' by a number of the pupils showed how well they had been schooled and how evenly- their voices were trained. A two-niano quartet then followed. The instrumentalists were the Misses R Hannan, E. O'Reilly, G. Mallison, and K. Martin. The execution was brilliant and the time perfect. The part song 'Speranza' followed, the parts being well sustained y j biases E._ Hannan, A, Moss, G. Hannam, I. Armstrong, and V. Robinson. Another instrumental selection, 'Lizette, was played excellently by Misses G. Hannam (piano), I. Armstrong (banjo), E. Nazer (mandolin), Buttola (2> and V. Hannan (violins/.
