AKAROA
(From an occasional correspondent.) On Sunday, February 2, the parishioners of Little River and Al.aroa met to bid adieu to their respected, energetic, and beloved pastor, * Rev. Dr. Kennedy. [With great regret the parishioners had heard that they- - were to lose their pastor who had labored amongst them for fi.e and a half years, and whose years of administration were marked by (among many other things)' two specially useful worts— a Convent for the Sisters of Mercy and a Catholic school. In the afternoon- of Sun- ' day the school children, members of Bible-history class, and others, assembled in St. Aloysius' schoolroom to speak their farewell words to Rev. Dr. Kennedy "and $o teg his acceptance of some tokens of gratitude for the_ great interest he ha<d taken in their spiritual welfare.' 1 '"? After Benediction, the parishioners presented ' him with an illuminated address, in which .was expressed __- their lecognition of the .great loss they were about to sustain, their lasting gratitude for the Works lie "had done in the parish, and their, earnest wishes thaffc even in this wiorld, he might reap' some reward for his labors. They then begged Ms acceptance of a purse" of sovereigns. Rev. Dr. 'Kennedy, . in reply," spoke most feelingly to his people, and thanked them for their cooperation in hi,s works under taken for the parish. The Little River parishioners also wished to present ' a purse of sovereigns, but Dr. Kennedy handed back the gift, requesting the donors to use it in providing < a horse and gig for his sucsessor.
