ST. JOSEPH'S CONVENT SCHOOL* PAEROA

On Friday evening, December 20, the pupils of St. Joseph's Convent School (says the Ohinemuri Gazette" 1 ), held, their annual - concert in the Ch&ral Hall, when there was a very- large attendance. The 'programme consisted of 'musical "items- (instrumental " and vocal) 'entirely by the pupils, iwhd acjfuitted- themselves " admirably -:and reflected great credit .on their .teachers. The most pleasing, feature of the evening -\ - was" iwih doubtedly a song, 'The Japanese -fan I ,' sung by the £irls of the school, they being dressed in Japanese costume. ~ All .the items were well " received, though to .enumerates, them . would be far too great a tax on , our SRace, which is limited. , A humorous dialogue en- - titled ' When women have their rights ' caused shrieks of laughter. During the evening. the Very Rev. Dean,. Haekett presented the following special prizes, which were won by the respective pupils during the past year :— Good conduct, Rita Crosby (gold cross presented by Mrs. Moriarty) ; prize for composition, Jack Carthy (cheque presented by Mr. C. Gibson) ; attendance, 398 half-days (eqjial), Horace Martin (gold cross presented by Mrs. Monarty) and Rita Crosby (gold chain presented b/y Very Rev. Dean Haekett )..;' attendance--(infant school), Frank Gordon 1, tilendon Hagan 2 s penny collection church door, Mpna Gordon '(''Life of St. Patrick,' presented by Dean Haekett) » ' Catholic Press ' runner, Willie Pennell (watch and chain, presented by Dean.
