Mary's Catholic Club intend staging the comedy, ' Jane,' in a few months, under the supervision of Mr. Glubb, late of Palmerston North. He has had ccnsi-derable experience, in theatrical matters and is now a permanent resident of Wanganui. The members are very enthusiastic over it, and the supervisor hag received an offer of the services of a great number of volunteeis. Last Thursday, the debate, 'Is New Zealand too fond of sport ■' ' was held, there being a large attendance. Those who took the negative side gained the victory by a narrcw majority. As this was the opening debate of the season the cLib ha\ c every reason to be proud of ih,-i talent displayed. The club's quoit tournament, held last Tuesday for a siher medal donated by Rev. Father Mahony, was won by J. McDonald. There were twehe competitors. The club was represented at a meeting of the debating societies of Wang}? run, held last Wednesday, by Messrs. P. B. Lomax ar,d V. Beasley, to consider the advisability of forming a debating in'on. Mr. Lomax was voted to the chair. It was decided to form a union, its objects being the advancement of societies affiliated, and holding cf contests, etc. Seven clubs were represented. Mr. J. R. Hunt (president of St. Mary's) was elected a vice-president.
