ARCHDIOCESE OF WELLINGTON

(From our own correspondent.) September 17. The Rev. Father O'Shca, parish priest of Te Aro, uitends to visit Australia early in October. On Wednesday evening the members of tlhe women's branqh of the Sacied Heart Society will hold their ajnnual social in aid of the schools. On Thursday the Rev. Father Goggan, parish priest of Napier, will deliver a lecture on Japan in the Catholic Young Mon"s club rooms. The lecture is under the auspices of the NZ. Federated Societies of Catholic Young Men, and the vproceeds will be devoted to defray tho expense-; of their delegates to the, Australasian Catholic Congress. The members of the Marist Brothers' Old Boys' Dramaitic C f ub are to stage ' For England's Glory ' in the G'uildford Terrace Schoolroom towards the end of tho month. Careful arrangements have been made, and the production should be one well worthy oi pat wnage. The proceeds will be devoted to the Thorndon parish The following gentlemen have been constituted a general committee to make and slupervise the necessary arrangements in connection with the bazaar to be held at Easter: :— Rev. Fathers O'Shca and Kimbell, Messis. L. Dwan, B. Doherty, G. Hill, J. Delancy, M. Eller, J. Bible, C. Foley, F. W. Crombie (secretaiy), arid C. Fitegiblbon. A preliminary meeting was held on Tuesday evening, at which it was decided to hold over the question of entertainments until the return from Australia of Rev. Father O'Shea, who is to make enquiries there with the view of securing, up-to-date ideas in this direction. An art unioto is also to be held in connection with the ba/.aar The members of the St. Patrick's College Old Boys' Association entertained the college football teams at a smoke ■concert in Godber's Rooms on Thursday evening. The gathering was a most enjoyable one, and the Rector, Very Rev. Father Keogh, presided. Mr. James Ward proposed the toast of the ' College Football Teams. 1 He congratulated the member 1 - of the teams on the successes they had achieved during tflie season. It was fifteen years since the first fifteen had won a championship, but year by year they stiove manfully. The college had many fine teams in the past, and lie could slay that the present team was an excellent and hard-working one, and thoroughly deserved its success He congratulated the team on raising the old blue and white banner once more to the top The tlreo teams were to be complimented on their high standard of play. A 1 gjreat measure of the success attained was due to their capable trainer, Mr. W. J. White. Mr. Campion, captain of the juniors, responded to the toast. Dining the evening the Rector made a passing reference to the doings of the team. They had (not been elated by success nor cast down by defeat, but kept their heads cool arid their feet m good kicking order. He also refeired in appreciative terms to the good work and influence of the Old Boys' Association. The society was to the colleige what the tenth icgion was to Caesar, what the Old GUard was to Napole-on. lie was pleased to say that the college was making good progres>s, and he sincerely honed it would continue to do so until it had reached tho zenith of its possible good. Among the ofher toasts honored during the evening were ' The Wcllingitom Rugby Union,' ' Alma Mater,' ' Kindred Associations,!' ' The Committee,' and St. Patrick's College Old Boys' Association ' Songs were contributed by Rev. Father Ainsworth, and Messrs. Crombie, Walshe, Kenny, Casey, and Butler. The college chorus was given by the pjupils. Mr. Bastings gave a recitation.
