January 16. The half-yearly meeting of the Wellington Branch of the Hibernian Society was (pays an occasional correfponde< t) held in St. Patriok'B hall on Wednesday evening last, Bro. O. Krohn, VJ?, in the chair. About seventy members were present. The balance sheet for the December quarter was presented by the Secretary, shewing the Branch to bo making: very satisfactory progress both in m^nibfrs and funds. During the p»st twelve months the membership hta increased from 156 to 181. and tie various fnnds increased from £665 to £650, despite tbe tot that the amount paid away in siok pay continues to be very large, on aoo >unt of three members being on the superannuation list fur many years past. It was stated that tbe increase in the member a' roll would have been much larger, bat for the fact that it has been impossible to supply intending members with rule books for inspection, as the Secretary haa not received any from Auckland, though he has repeatedly applied to the District Secret >ry for them during the iast two years. The election of officers for the next six months resulted as follows : president, Bro. J. B. Doherty ; vice-president, Bro. J. Sullivan ; secretary, P. J. Keelcher (.re-elected) ; treasurer, Bro. J. ' tratford ; warden, Bro. Con. bullivan ; guardian, Bro. P. S >aLnon ; audit >rs. Bro. J. W. Callaghan and J. McGowan ; dt lenatws to Triennial Meeting, Bros. J. B. Doherty and P. .J. Keleher. The Order-paper for the meeting to be held at Timaru next month was c <nsidered at length, and the delegates chosen should have no difficulty in exercising their votes on the various motious t<> be dealt with. A strong committee, consisting of Hibernian* and representative citizen?, are now bu?y making preparations for the proper celebration uf St. Patrick's Day. It has been decided that the celebration shall take tbe form of a grand piouic and sports at some nuittble spot out of the oity. A sub-committee is to visit the various pleasure resorts and report to the General Committee on Sunday next. A sports committee has also been set up to prepare a programme of events, and it in expected they will have this ready in the course of the coming week.
