Supplies in general at the Addington saleyards were moderate) and the attendance was very small. Fat Cattle— The entry consisted of 187 head, principally heifers of fair quality. With the reduced supply, last week's drop in prices was recovered, good beef realising 18s per 1001 b; other qualities from 13s to 17s. General prices current were from Ls7s Bd to L 8 10s for steers ;L3 17s 6d to L6 l7s 6d for heifers ; and L3 l7s 6d to L 5 17s 6d for cows.

Fat Sheep — About 2500 were penned, mostly ewes of a wide range of quality — from very prime to inferior. A few small lines of prime wethers sold readily at late rates for export at 16s to 17s 6d. Two pens of two-tooth ewes fetched 14s 9d ; unfinished^ wethers, from lls 6d ; and two or three pens of extra heavy-weight wethers, including a nice pen of Down crosses, went to butchers at 17s to 188. Ewes, in sympathy with those in the store yards, made an all-round improvement, most marked in the lower grades, if having fair mouths, the advance in an irregular market varying from 6d to Is 6d. There were, however, many withdrawals towards the close of the sale, when butchers requirements had been satisfied. Prime young ewes were sold at 12s 6d to 13s lOd ; medium quality, at 10s 6d to lls fid ; and aged from 9s. One pen of good merino wethers fetched 10s lOd ; secondary to f»ir lots, 7s 3d to 9a 6d. Fat Lambs — A moderate supply of about 1200, which wore about the average in quality. They met good competition at fully previous market rates, exporters bidding freely. Freez ng lines realised from 12s 6d to 14s ; others sold irregularly at 10s to lls <>d. Store Sheep and LAMr.rf— The rain of last week has given a different aspect to this department. There was comparatively a small entry of about 7500. All classes of ewes improved in price, while wethers and lambs brought fully late rates.

PIGS— About 400 were penned. There was about an average supply of fat pigs, heavy weight baconera predominating. Bidding was very irregular, though there appeared to be a good demand, and late rates were about maintained. Baconers Bold at 30s to 42s 6d ; choppers to 50s, and porkero at 27s to 32a — equal to 3{d to 3Jd for baconers of best weights, 2^d to 3d for heavy weights, and 4d for porkers. Stores sold irregularly at 14s to 235, weaners and suckers, 6s to 9s.

The New Zealand dairymen have subscribed to a testimonial for presentation to Dr. Babcock, the inventor of the famous milktesting apparatus bearing his name. The testimonial is intended as a recognition of the inventor's generosity in refusing to patent hid invention, so that farmers might have the fullest benefit of it.

Speakinu at Amber ley last week the Premier quoted figures to show the vastly improved condition of the country now as compared with, ten years ago. He said : Wool exports had increased in value £174,000 ; frozen meat by £1,001,239 ; sheepskins and pelts by £145,440 ; butter by £449,098 ; cheese by £56,832 ; coal by £134,818 ; gold by £739,742 ; land holdings by £24,461 ; land in cultivation, 3,969,180 acres. Occupied areas increased by 6,350,214 acres, sheep by 3,232,393, and oattle by 371,193. Savings Bank depoeits increased by £6,609,928, and the value of land with improvements increased by £27,453,633. Population had increased by 16,666 from 1891 to 1899, and the total value of property for the same period by £1,369,194.
