DUNEDIN CATHOLIC LITERARY SOCIETY.

THE usual weekly meeting of the Du:edin Cat olic Literary Society held on Friday evening. There was a very largo attendance of members. The Very Rev P. Lynch (president) occupied the chair. The programme consisted of a reading by the president entitltd ,'Tbe Pre-Columbian Discovery of America," which proved boh interesting and full of information, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. B. Haughton explained the working of the Referendum aa brought before ths Hou9e of Representatives last session. A very animatd and interesting discussion took place on the question, in which Messrs P. Carolio, R. Dobbin, P. Hally, T. McCormack and J. Marlow to k part, it being ultimately decided that on June 5, the qiestion would form the subject of a debate, Mr Marlow leading in the affirmative and Mr T. McCormack in the negative.
