During a late trip to Chihtchurch our representative paid a visit to the saucs and pickle fac'ory of Mess-g Hay ward B-os. For the information of the readers of the Tablet, we may say this firm are the pole makers of the now celebrated Fla? Brand p'ckles and sauces, so well and favoarably known throauhont the colony. The fLtn'iS premises situated at 171 Peterbaro street, are wall worth a visit, and in every sense wall adapted far tha burin jbs, being commodious, cool, and well veitilated. Thorough cleanliness is noticeable everywhere, and tha general neatnes9 and business method apparent io the internal managem nr, strike tha visitor on entering and make a lasting and favourable impresrioa. Through the kind-ae-H of Mr Hayward we were shown over tha premises, and had tbe different stages of manufacture expUiaed tj us— from the arrival on thu scene of the vegetables in th. ir raw or green state, unttl after goia\t through the variong processes th«y are ready for consumption. In addition to the manufacture of the Flag Brand pickles alluded to' the firm maoufactura the Flag Brand Worcestershire and Tomato sftuc, which are fast becoming such a favourite relish with the general public. Besides the pickles and sauceg the firm also manufacture baking powder, olive oil, vinegar, gravy colouring lemon, orange, and citron peel, als> pre erved fruit. All the abova are got up in first-class style— equal to English, being artistically capsuled and labelled. At tha present time the firm are supplying all tbe leading wholesale houses from Auckland to lovereargjll, and are at their wits end to overtake the orders. Amongst other large customers are the Union Bte*m Ship company. May this favourable state of things long continue, and may tbe firm go on and prosper.
