"•^lbe New Zkaland Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limi« ted, report for the week ended January sth a* follows :—: — Btore Cattle.— No change of any consequence has occurred since weltgt ieported. The market continues somewhat languid, and while a few odd lots are being placed graziers as a rale only operate to a very limited extent, owing, dc-üb-less, to the fact that, except on very rare occasions, the supply of fat cattle is in exc a s* of requirements, »nd in rith-r too many instance the 7 (graziers) find that the price obtained when fat compared with tbat paid as stores is Dot by any means satisfactory. Store 8 eep.— A few Mnes of thee are changing hands, bat so far tbe business is only to a moderate extent. Agwd deal of enquiry, however, is being male for nearly all airts, w.iich it is anticipated will result in a considerable number being disposed of within tbe next few weeks. Diring the pa9t week we placed about 8000, comprising fnll-mouthpd merino ewes, two-tooth half breds, mixed sexes ; »Uo foor •tooth to fall-moutb crossbred wethers and ewes at satisfactory prices. Wool. — Since our last there is no change of any moment to record. Supplies are coming into store daily for the sales to be held here on the Bth and 9th of this week, when some well-known choice clips of both merino and crossbred will be submitted, and there is every appearance of a full attendance of buyers being present. Sheepskins.— These continue in good demand at recent rates. We had the usual attendance of buyers at our weekly sale on Tuesday at the Chamber of Commerce Hall, when we offered a full catalogne, comprising a number of country dry skins, also a fair share of town and country butchers, b>th woolly green skins and bare pelts. Competition was fairly active, and all w,re disposed of at tbe following rates : — For country dry cro^sbreds, inferior to medium, la 5i to 3s 21; dodo merino, la 41 to 3j ; full-wolled crossbre Is, 3a 81 to 6s 6ci ; do do merino. 3s 51 to 5s 91 ; dry pelts, 31 to Is 2J ; green do, Is 7.1, Is 6i, Is 51, Is 41, Is 21, Is Id ; green lambskins, Is 9J 181 8 7d, Is 61, Is 5.1, Is 3d, Is 2J, Is Id. Rabbi skins.— l here is very little to be said about th cc now ; owing to the hmitei supply there is no business of any c< ntrquence being done. Consignments have fallen off almost to nothing, and those coming to hand are for the mo3t part inf.-iior sorts but still are Baleable although prices hs a rule are less satisfactory. On Tuesday we submitter! a small catalogue, all low Beasons kins, which brought from 4^l 'o 9^ 1 ; sucsers and h»lfi>rown, l£i t » 3d per lb. Hiiies. — There is no alteration to repoi t. Tbe local demand continues sufficiently active to absorb all the supply and tne prices paid, although cmsidered low, leave little or no room for exporters tjopeiate. Quotation", for good to best. 2jd to 2$ 1 ; extra heavy 3 i ; medium, 2d 'o 2^d ; light, H I to l^d ; inferior and slippy, Id to l}i per lb. Tallow. — Has a moderately fair demand for local consumption, but there is hardly any prime rendered i ffiring in this market, the bulk of the co signtneD's cowing forward being only odd lots of conn'ry rendered, mixed, and ofte-i inferior, but at the same time mirk-table at piices in sympi'hy with thooe current at Hume. Quo'ations fur pumn rendered mut'on, 19s to 20-? : mrdium to good, ltis to 18s; inferior and mixed, 12s 6 1 to 15s 61. Rough fdt s-lla readily, piics biing ful y isainui el, wbica are for b st mutton caul lo\ to Us ; n.feuor to rmdium and goo i, 10s to 12* y1 p r cwt. Giain — Wht at 1 here is a moderately fur .sernind f.r al, classes of wheat, but mo r P especially medium to good and pnme mi liug. Whi'e veUet.wbich seems to be low n< stock, and any lots of this clasj rffermg in milling condition, couid be placed at late current rates. Trie business done however is not expensive, the demand being confined to local millers exigencies, which are not very pressing ; still owing to 'he bmall supplits in first hands the market is fiim and hardly likely to become weaker before the new gr.un is to hand. We quote best Tuscan, 3s 9d to 3s lOd ; best white velvet, 33 Bdto3a lOd: medium to good, P>s 5J to 39 7d ; best ied wbe^t, 3s 5 1 to 3s 6d; medium, 3s 4d to 3s 5d ; broken inferior and musty, 2i Gi to 'Si 31 (ex store). Oats Locally there is no improvement in the position, and tbe chief business pa?smg is in the placing of the few small arrivals coming to hand from day to-day Old stocks are aim >st entirely outcf agents hands, but there is a considerable quantity otill lying in store which will have to be cleared out before prices are likely to further advance. Even now buyers are Dot quite sj keen to operate at the prices obtaining during the past two or three weeks, and only that ihere are so few offering now, it is questionable if late rates could be maintm ied, but whica we again jiife. For prime milling bright and stout, Is b\<\ to 1-. .">.} 1 : best bright short feed, Is oi to Is 5^ I : medium, Is 4^ 1 ; interior and musty, 19 to Is 31 ; good Danish, Is iltols4\ 1; ex store, sacks extra. Birl^y h>§ a good inquiry, but the supply la first hands beiig now almost all disposed of, the bnstness doiiH is only to a sen ill extent c>d 6 icd to the odd confi^nnvnts ocean >na!iy C'inng forward ; quotati >ns for prime mailing, 2s 21 to 2s 9i ; medium to gooi, 232 3 31 to 2s 5! : Lei and «Aii»".. & , io x~i >^/ -j ~x va^- » 1U "-;. Grass Seed. — Som.' small sales of both ryegrasa seed and cocksfoot have been effected during the week, owi ig to the m H6ture ot the weather, but tiie demand 18 not b. any m'aus brisk, and, accurlto recent rt ports consider :ble are, is are under rvegrasj in tn » Nortn Island, which will (ioubtie^s tc.d to limit the demand fjr southern growth, of which l<*rg.- jii Ids are expected. An idea is theretoie pr - vailing that it will be sotnew tut d.tSjult to matn'aia prices ruling during ha p-ist season. We quote— Bjst machm '-dressed ryt'gr<ist spf'^fcft 3 i to 4- 9J ; faimi-is r>est dresse i, 3s 10 3* 6 1 ; medium, 2s Ga TO 2s 9 1 (ex store.). Cocksfoot seed, s!o>v ot sale, at fium 1J to 4i'd per lb. Potatoes. — The market 19 over supplied, chiefly with inferior sorts, for which there is very little demand, being almost unfit for use, and in consequence difficult to place except at very low prices, while the few Jgood lots coming to hand are saleable at prices more

in accordance with reasonable values. We quote— lnferior, £3 10» to £4 10) ; best, £5 10s tj £6 10a per ton. Chaff.— Deliveries are only to a moderate extent and with a fair demand there is no difficulty in placiog consignments immediately on «»rrival at slightly mure satisfactory prices, say for best oaten well cut and heavy, 42s 6d to 45 a ; extra prime, 47s 6d ; light and inferior to medium, 30s to 40a per ton. Dairy Produce.— The market continues very sluggish for both cheese and butter, in respect to the latter especially, prime salted in Ponds Boxes, slaw sale at 6d to 7d, medium almost unsaleable Prime factory made cheese, medium size, m snipping condition, dull. at 4 1 »o 4-Jd per lb. FJax— The market is barely supplied more especially with bright and properly dressed parcels, for wh"ca we have bnye-sat late quotations, wbich continue firm. Medium to common and strawy parcels can aleo be plac d when in shipping condition. We quote for extra bright well diessed, £19 to £20 ss ; medium to good, £15 to £18 • coarse and strawy, £10 to £15 per ton.
