The offence may have been committed by a Man (name unknown), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 7 in., medium build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes ; wearing a dark slate-grey suit with stripes and low-cut waistcoat with round front, and dark-grey felt hat; neat appearance; nervous disposition ; slight foreign accent. At his request he was shown some rings and he selected one, value £9O. He informed the shop-assistant that he did not have sufficient cash and asked that she accept a cheque for the amount. This request was refused, and after he left the shop it was discovered that the ring described was missing from one of the ring-pads which was shown him.
