Auckland. — On the 3rd or 4th instant, the shop of the GREAT CENTRAL MEAT MART, 308 Queen Street, was broken, into, the safe opened by means of explosives, and the following stolen: Eight £1 notes, Nos. 1 over C. 036900, 9 over C. 434964, 2 over L. 383498, 2 over L. 629237, 3 over L. 333179, 3 over L. 718899, 6 over L. 703119, 7 over L. 124570; nine 10s.'notes, Nos. 0 over J. 776637, 1 over J. 746044,1 over J. 855179, 2 over J. 303790, 2 over J. 707568, 2 over J. 753620, 2 over J. 781854, 2 over J. 929585, 2 over J. 939978; a postal note, No. E. 117098, for 55.; three £1 and thirteen 10s. notes ; £7B 11s. 3d. in silver and coppers; and a dark-brown leather attache-case, 18 in. by 12 in. by 5 in., brass locks, frayed at corners ; total value, £lOl 6s. 3d. Auckland. —l4th ultimo, from the shop of JOHN BEAUMONT HEWITT, 39 Victoria Street, a mahogany guitar, “ Huia ” on blue label inside, pearl position-dots on frets, black and white inlay along edge of finger-board, double white pearling along top edges, white bands around centre hole, nickel stirrup tail-piece, neck is carved with jaguar head; value, £22. Identifiable. A man (name unknown), age about twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, dark complexion and hair ; wearing battledress, was seen removing the guitar. No warrant.
