Auckland. — 10th November last, from a motor-car in Symonds Street, the property of MARGARET LANGSTAEE HASLETT, 455 Remuera Road, a brown fibrecane suit-case with blue lining, about 36 in. by 18 in. ; a pink silk nightdress, short sleeves with round embroidered design on them and on neck; a blue woollen dressing-gown with pocket on right side ; a pair of ladies’ navy-blue shoes with leather buckles, size s|; a pair of ladies’ black leather shoes ; a cream-coloured embroidered linen handkerchief-case containing two dozen handkerchiefs some of which have “ M ” on them ; a navy-blue tapestry bag, 12 in. long, zip-fastener on top, lined with blue silk, containing a brown woollen scarf; a pink woollen hot-water-bag cover; a pair of incomplete hand-knitted navy-blue woollen socks with four white knitting-needles ; a navy-blue floral dress with short sleeves ; a green cardigan with cuffs of lighter shade; a pink woollen dressing-jacket, ribbon on neck and waist ; a pair of buff- coloured kid gloves, embroidered on cuffs; a blue writing-case with blue paper, butterfly design on cover, containing a black fountain-pen; an envelope with complainant’s name and address on it containing a cheque for £lO, drawn on the Union Bank of Australia, Wahroonga, by T. M. Haslett, in favour of M. Haslett ; a cheque for £2 18s. 6d., No. 4176, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, by McKendrick Bros., in favour of M. Haslett, dated 28/10/41, and signed H. G. Hill and R. A. Haggctt ; and an Australian money-order for £1 forwarded from Sydney by T. M. Haslett ; total value, £23 3s. 6d. Identifiable.

Auckland. —Ist December last, from the office of LINDSAY RALPH CULP AN, panel-beater, 96 Albert Street, a dark-fawn leather wallet, about 7 in. by 4 in., domefastener broken, light-green silk lining; a cheque, No. 43385, for £3 155., drawn by the Public Trustee, Auckland, in favour of L. R. Culpan, and endorsed by him ; and £l3 10s. in money ; total value, £l7 15s. Cheque and wallet identifiable. A Man (name unknown), of the following description, was alone in the office and had an opportunity to commit the offence: Age about thirty-nine, height about 5 ft. 7 in., native of Australia or New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion and hair ; had the appearance of a land agent or salesman ; dressed in a ginger-brown sports coat, light trousers, and grey-green felt hat with pressed-in crown.

Auckland. -16th December last, from a cabin on the ship “ Kapiti ” at Northern Wharf, the property of ARTHUR ANDREWS, 17 Crummer Road, a gentlemen’s chromium-plated open-face dress watch, Roman numerals, white dial, “ A.A.” on back case, “In appreciation fromBert ”on inside case ; value, £2. Identifiable.

Auckland. Between the 19th and 24th December last, from the Old Colonists’ Museum, Kitchener Street, the property of the AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL, a gold medal with Turkish inscription, about the size of half-crown ; a gold medal about size of florin with inscription depicting that it was awarded at the New Zealand International Exhibition, Christchurch, Home Industries Section, about 1907, and a representation of the Exhibition buildings on it; a gold medal about size of a florin with inscription depicting that it was presented to children of the Dominion schools commemorating the Proclamation of New Zealand as a Dominion, 26th September, 1907, and bearing a representation of the King’s head; total value, £2O. Identifiable.

Auckland. Between the 31st December last and 2nd ultimo, from a room in the Royal Hotel, Victoria Street, the property of DR. BASIL OSWALD QUIN, 558 Manukau Road, Epsom, a gentlemen’s green-fawn waterproof . Burberry overcoat, fit man 5 ft. 11 in., small tear near one seam, stains on front ; value, £B. Identifiable.

Auckland. —lst December last, from the dining-room of JAMES KEARNS, tea-rooms proprietor, 15 Great North Road, a gentlemen’s silver Swiss open-face pocket watch, No. 664209, Roman numerals, black hands; a silver chain of fancy curb pattern, 12 in. long; total value, £3. Identifiable. The property was missing shortly after Owen Bryne, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 162, and Photographs, 1919,' plage 52, had/left the' dining-room. 'He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted".

Auckland. —l3th December last, from a bath-room in the St. Clair Private Hotel, Pitt Street, the property of MATARII NICHOLAS, a ladies’ gold round wristlet watch, “ M.N.” on back case, Arabic numerals, gold wrist-band with square links ; value, £3 10s. Identifiable. ‘ ■

Te Kuiti.—Between the 28th and 30th November last, from a room in the Mangapehi Boardinghouse, the property of THOMAS FREDERICK BROUGH, on service overseas, a slaty-black Settimo Sopranio 60 bass piano-accordion with red glass pattern on it, yellow bellows, contained in black fibre case with red lining ; value, £4O. Identifiable.

Eltham. — Between the 28th December last and 9th ultimo, from a shed at the rear of a dwelling in London Street, the property of the EGMONT BOX CO., LTD., and GEORGE DIVER, a .32 rim-fire five- chambered Iver Johnson revolver, No. 50013 ; a Speedec electric solderingiron; a carpenter’s linen apron; some Eveready torch batteries ; a tin of glue ;' and some solder on reel ; total value, £4 Bs. 7d. Feilding. 27th ultimo, from the dwelling of LAWRENCE CLAUDE FERGUSSON, Halcombe Hill, four £5 notes. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about forty-five, medium height and build, florid complexion, broken nose ; wearing a navy-blue suit coat, brown trousers, and dirty grey hat, and was carrying a small blue suit-case; untidy appearance. He was seen jumping over complainant’s front gate.

Christchurch. — Between the 3rd and 10th April last, from the “ Port Hunter ” at Pipitea Wharf, Wellington, the property of the FEDERAL STEAM NAVIGATION C 0.,. _WELLINGTON, four electric Maimin Rotoshere “L ” x cloth-cutting machines. 230 volts, serial Nos. 3841, 3842, 3843, and 3847 ; total value, £55 7s. 3d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to James Frederick Andrews, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 5 in., .painter, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes ; usually well dressed. He may be identical with a man of the same name referred to in Police Gazette, 1933, page 52, and 1939, page 533, and Photographs, 1933, page 17. Eight of the above-described machines were consigned to H. Mooney and Co., Wellington; six were short-landed, but later two of these were recovered near the Pipitea Wharf shed. About the 30th November last at Christchurch suspect - offered for sale similar machines and one, serial No. 3841 (recovered), he sold to Edward John Heppelthwaite, proprietor of the Lathe and Hardware Import Co. for £l4. It has been ascertained that suspect left Christchurch for Wellington about the 11th December "last taking two of the machines with him. - fC-V-4
