PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. Between the 2nd and 16th January last, from the gymnasium of JAMES St. MARTIN TRACEY, 312 Queen Street, a pair of shoes and a suit (recovered); six grey woollen blankets, three-quarter size ; a dark grey twopiece suit with thin white stripes, fit man 6 ft. 4 in., made by Preston and Maurice, tailors, and their label is attached to collar: total value, £26 12s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to C. L. Hogan, age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 10 in., seaman, native of England, strong build, fresh complexion, red hair, blue eyes ; roughly dressed in odd coat and trousers (no hat). He was left in charge of the gymnasium while conplainant was in hospital, and when the latter returned suspect had disappeared and the property described above had been stolen. The shoes and suit were recovered from a pawnbroker to whom they had been pledged on the 4th January last by a man of Hogan’s description. Inquiries reveal that Hogan left Auckland on the 16th February last as a member of the crew of the ship “Maimoa” for London.

Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Richard Williams, alias Dick Wilson, age about twenty-four, height 5 ft. 5 in., farm labourer, small build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair; wearing a blue-grey sports coat and soft felt hat; quiet disposition ; fond of horse-racing. Hamilton. 26th April last, from a bathroom in Opoia House, the property of BOEL BERNARD STANAWAY, a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold oblong Swiss wristlet-watch, case No. 36623, 15 jewels, Arabic numerals, fiat rolled-gold expanding wrist band. value, £8 10s. Identifiable.

Gisborne. —During the night of 14th ultimo, from the cab of a motor horse-float in Bright Street, the property of McCORMICKS LTD., garage-proprietors, a six-valve brown Bosch motor-car radio and speaker, model 802, steel case, new condenser, rub-marks on top ; value, £23. Palmerston North. —Between the 9th and 12th instant j the Public Works Department store and magazines, Makuri .Gorge (between Pahiatua and Pongaroa), the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT, were broken into i and the following stolen : A box containing 50 lb. of Nobel’s i Polar gelignite in packets of 51b.; 1,000 Nobel’s No. 6 ; detonators in tins each containing 100; 48 coils of Nobel’s ; blue fuse; a new Keens emery-wheel, No. 61, 6 in. by 1 in.; itwo four-gallon tins of Pennant kerosene; a four-gallon tin of Dervoil oil for use in Diesel engines; a 26 in. Disston hand-saw, “ P.W.D.” burned in handle; a set of Salter , clock-face spring scales, weigh up to 150 lb.; a four-gallon ' tin of Shell oil, single grade; a3B lb. tin of Shell grease; a tin containing two gallons of Shell C.Y.I. oil; a new claw hammer, branded “ P.W.D.” ; and a vise, maul, brace and ' bits, files, &c.: total value, £23 17s. 4d. Lower Hutt. —10th March last, from Kings Crescent, Lower Hutt, the property of the HUTT VALLEY ELECTRIC-POWER BOARD, three drums each containing about five chains of bare strand -064 gauge copper wire, drums marked “ 880 Bare Hard Drawn Copper 19/064 Strand No. 525, Pirelli General Eastleigh, E.F. 1618, Made in England, 986 P.G. Wellington, No. 525 ” : total value, £4O. Drums identifiable.

Petone. Between the 14th and 16th April last, from a room at 27 Sydney Street, the property of JOHN REGINALD BURKE, a clock in the form of an aeroplane propeller, chromium-plated blades with round black dial in centre, 10 in. long and about 4 in. high, Arabic numerals, 3,6, 9, and 12 only; value, £1 17s. 6d. Wellington. 2Bth or 29th April last, from the shop of LAUCHLAN’S LTD., Woodward Street, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold three-stone diamond ring, straight claw setting, platinum shoulders, “ 2154 ” scratched on inside and “ 7 ” may be stamped on inside ; value, £l2 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about thirty-seven, height about 5 ft. 10/ in., medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair. He asked to be shown two- and three-stone diamond rings. Some rings were shown to him, and while the salesman’s attention was diverted he must have stolen the ring described and substituted a cheap ring, which was later found in place of .the .stolen one. The followingdescribed man may have been associated with him in the commission of the offence. This man hurried into the shop and asked the salesman for a vase in the window, and while the latter’s attention was diverted the first-described man had an opportunity to commit the offence. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), who asked to be shown a cluster ring. He was shown a pad of rings, and while the salesman’s attention was diverted he must have stolen the one described and substituted a cheap ring, which was later found in the pad. He did not purchase a ring, but said he would bring his niece to look at them. He inspected a pad of rings, and during the temporary absence of the assistant he must have stolen the one described above and substituted a cheap ring which was later found in the pad. Description : Age about forty-five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., dark hair and eyes, heavy eyebrows; dressed in a dark suit, grey felt hat, and fawn overcoat.

Wellington. Between the 11th and 25th April last, the property of MAURICE KENNETH LAWSON, traveller, a ladies’ southern musquash overcoat, about 46 in. long, skins of upright design, roll collar, plain sleeve with point at cuff, two bone buttons and a collar button, lined with dark-brown patterned brocade, one pocket inside, “ D.F.D.” stamped on inside of skins;, value, £l7. Not identifiable. The coat was one of two in a carton consigned from Ashburton to Palmerston North, but on reaching the latter place it was discovered that the coat described had been stolen.

Timaru. —Between the 16th April last and 28th ultimo, from the Drill Shed, King Street, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Department), a •455 calibre Webley service revolver, No. 691, “ N.Z.” above and a date below number, double action out of order, but it can be fired single action; value, £4 Us. lid. Dunedin. 3lst March last, from a motor-car in the grounds of the Wingatui Racecourse, the property of JAMES WHITE THOMSON, 28 Manor Place, a three-valve portable battery Vidor radio set, serial No. 7939, contained in black case with leather handle; value, £9. Identifiable.
