PROPERTY STOLEN.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —15th March last, from a suit-case in the Railways Outward Goods-shed, the property of OLGA WILHELMINE SEMON, George Street, Dunedin, a dark-yellow polished transparent amber bracelet, links held with two elastic cords; a neck-chain of alternate gold and silver oblong links, about 15 in. long, large links joined with small rings ; a bracelet of same pattern as neckchain, but links are slightly smaller; a magnifying glass, 1J in. in diameter, black vulcanite rim; a Hohner mouthorgan, 5 in. long ; a ladies’ ostrich-skin handbag, about 9 in. by 6 in., fastens with metal clips, small handle ; and a leather pencil-case of envelope shape, about 8 in. long and 2J in. deep, fastens with domes : total value, £l6 13s. Identifiable.

Auckland. 6th April last, from the shop of HENRY NETTLESHIP, jeweller, 67 Karangahape Road, an 18 ct. gold diamond engagement ring, set with a cluster of nine diamonds and two smaller stones on shoulder in platinum setting, “ Ml 9 ” scratched on inside ; and a diamond engagement ring of which no further description is available: total value, £2B 10s. One ring only identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., strong build, ruddy complexion, full face; dressed in a blue suit, light felt hat, and tan shoes ; well spoken; pleasant manner. On the above-mentioned date he called at complainant’s shop and requested to see some diamond rings. He examined some but did not purchase any, and after he had left the shop the pad of rings was placed in the safe for a few days when it was discovered that the two rings described had been stolen and a cheap imitation ring left in place of one of them.

Auckland. ’During the night of 15th ultimo, the countinghouse of E. ASTLEY AND SONS, LTD., was broken into and the following stolen: An office safe, 15 in. square and about 20 in. high, painted dirty green, brass handle and small brass plate over keyhole, believed to have been made by E. Cotterell, Birmingham; a black cash-box, about 9 in. by 5 in., dent in lid of one compartment ; an envelope marked “A. Cant,” containing £1 14s. 2d.; an envelope marked “ Richards,” containing 13s. 7d.; 7s. 2d. cash ; an envelope containing £2 14s. Id. ; twelve each of Id. and Jd. stamps ; a duplicate writing-book, about 9 in. by 5 in. by J in., containing letters written by Prank Astley to his brother John; and a 78 in. steel flexible tape measure : total vahie, £l2 13s. 3d. Auckland. —2Bth April last, from the shop of ..JOHN MURRELL, 5 Strand Arcade, a German eight-day chiming clock, dark oak case with arched top, ; about ll in. base, 8-£ in. high and 6 in. wide, chromium .bezel which is not-a perfect fit at top; value, £6 10s. Identifiable. The followingdescribed Men (names unknown), were associated in the commission of the offence(l) Age about thirty-seven,"• height about 5 ft. 8 in., strong build ; wearing a new greyish overcoat with brown fleck and belt and light hat to match. (2) Age about thirty-seven, height about 5 ft. 9 in., strong build, dark complexion, brownish hair, soft hands with dirty oily fingernails, long scar on inside of left thumb ; dressed in a suit with pin stripes, blue shirt, red tie, and tan footwear (no hat). The first-described man stole the clock from a china cabinet while the other man engaged the attention of complainant.

At present there is insufficient evidence to charge him, but if he is arrested on any other charge the Superintendent of Police, Wanganui, is to be notified. . His finger-prints received from Australia show that he is at present on remand in Sydney on a charge of breaking, entering, and theft, &c. (C.R. 39/123.) Petrie ” on it, Roman numerals, gold expanding wristlet with spring clasp attached : value, £7 10s. Identifiable.

Wellington. ultimo, from a bedroom in the Orient Hotel, the property of RITA OWERS, a ladies’ black leather handbag, four New Zealand £1 notes ; an English £1 note; an English 10s. note; a small gold propelling pencil with “ Rita ” inscribed on it; a Blackbird fountain-pen with “Rita” from J.L.W.” inscribed on it; a small pocket-knife with pearl handle; six keys; an American dollar note; several foreign coins, including Fijian pennies and an American dime and cent: total value, £9 10s. Pen and pencil identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, wearing light raincoat and hat.

Wellington.— On the 22nd or 23rd April last, the premises of the PETROUS TILE CO., 188 Seatoun Road, were broken into and the following stolen : A black cash-box with gold-coloured lines, about 10 in. by 4 in. by 7 in., containing £lB in money ; and a cheque, No. B. 727345, for £6O, drawn on the Commercial Bank of Australia, Wellington, in favour of the Petrous Tile Co., and signed E. A. King : total value, £7B 7s. 6d. Cheque only identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Gordon Thomas Wilkie, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 656, and he has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Dunedin. 4th March last, from Moray place, the property of STANLEY ALBERT MORRIS, 58 Glasgow Street, a 1938 model 3/ h.p. twin-cylinder Triumph motor-cycle, painted dark-red, electric headlamp, Avon Supreme tire on front wheel, Universal tire on rear wheel, engine No. 8/ST/9134, 1938-39 registration No. 15-278; value, £l2O. Identifiable. The exhaust pipe from this machine was recovered from a motor-truck which was unlawfully removed from Christchurch on the 3rd March last and which was found abandoned near Geraldine.
