Kaitaia. —l9th May last, from a room in the Bungalow Boardinghouse, Commerce Street, the property of AUBREY DENZIL LYDFORD, a gentlemen’s chromium-plated oblong open-face wristlet-watch, serial No. 2086 on back case, back is curved to fit wrist, luminous dial; value, £3 10s. Identifiable.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —Between the- 18th March and 19th. April last, from the oil tanker “ Nucula,” the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Naval Department), a ship’s telescope painted white, about 24 in. long, and about 18 in. when closed, about 2\ in. diameter, has “ Hughes 6014 ”on it; value, £3. Identifiable.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). Between the 2nd and the 4th May last, from a cabin on the ship “ Wainui,” the property of HENRY GRAYE, a gentlemen’s gold hunting Omega watch, chased case, black numerals and hands, No. 11779, marks made with pen-knife inside case, 9 ct. gold chain attached, with interlocking links, small plain links between double chain, with 9 ct. gold round pendant attached, “ H.G., 1926 ” on it: total value, £lB. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Three Men (names unknown), who were seen to leave the ship on the 3rd May while the crew was holding a stop-work meeting(l) Age about twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 5 in., medium build, thin long face, light-brown hair bleached on top. Between the 14th and 16th April last, the showrooms of TAPPENDEN MOTORS, LTD., Beach Road, were broken, into and the following stolen: A dark-grey worsted suit with lighter grey stripes, made by Les Lees, fob pocket in. trousers, v-shaped tag on inside which fastens to button on waistband, small tear on cuff of left leg, “ 638,” “ L. 28J,” and “ W. 321 ” written in pencil on hip pocket a gentlemen’s grey felt hat, size 6-J, Crean make; a pair of gentlemen’s black glace-kid shoes with patent leather toe-caps, stick-on rubber soles, left heel out of shape ; a brown fibrecane suitcase, about 30 in. by 18 in. by 6 in., locks slightly rusty; 4s. in money; and a gentlemen’s double-breasted dark-brown cowhide leather overcoat, back of coat is one skin, leather belt, lined with dark-brown materials known as Sealette, cape collar with leather tag which fastens across neck, made by Robinsons Ltd., Albert Street, Auckland: total value, £ls 4s. 6d. Identifiable except money.

Auckland. 4th or sth May last, from the dwelling of ISAEREL MUNDY, Cheltenham Beach, Devonport, a ladies’ 9 ct. gold 15-jewel hexagon-shaped wristlet-watch, case No. 75552, repair No. A. 8318 scratched on inside back case, “ Kohn, Jeweller, Auckland” on dial, gold-filled expanding wristlet attached; value, £ll 15s.' Identifiable.

Auckland. —2sth March last, from a room at 145 Hobson Street, the property of JOHN THEODORE GIFFORD, care of Gordon Gibbons, Kirikau, Taumarunui, a suit-case and contents (recovered); and a gentlemen’s brownish-fawn overcoat, half lined with brown silk, Raglan style, “ Griffiths, Tailor, Taumarunui ” on tag at neck, three buttons on each sleeve; value, £3 15s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Walter Robert Manning, referred to in Police Gazette, 1935, page 158, and Photographs, 1917, page 16. He shared a room with complainant, and during the latter’s absence the property described above was stolen and Manning had disappeared. The -case and contents were subsequently recovered from a second-hand dealer to whom they had been sold on the 25th March last by a man of whom no description is available. . • . , ,

During the night of 9th May last, the Horotiu Post-office, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department), was broken into, the safe opened by means of explosives, and the following stolen: £29 15s. 3d. in money; a postal note for 25.; a registered letter, registered No. 40, sent from Whangarei and addressed to Mrs. M. E. Laxon, care of Horotiu Freezing Co.”; and a post-office black cash-box with brass handle, about 9 in. by 5 in. by 2 in.: total value, £3O 7s. Letter only identifiable.

Hamilton.— the night of 13th ultimo, the office of the Cambridge Railway Station, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Railways Department), was broken into, the safe opened by means of explosives, and the i. following stolen : £6 17s. 6d. in money.

On the 25th or 26th ultimo, the shop of JOHN ALFRED HALKETT, draper, Putaruru, was broken into and the following stolen: A gentlemen’s dark-grey Regent overcoat with white herringbone stripes, size 3 or 4; two gentlemen’s light-grey overcoats, mens’ size, one is Tassie make and the other Regent make; a gentlemen’s light-grey Tassie overcoat; a gentlemen’s fawn oatmealcoloured sports coat, size 3;. two sports coats, one blue and the other fawn, Petone make, pleated action at back; six shirts of various colours with collars to match, size 3; four fuji silk shirts with collars attached, sizes 2 and 3; six gentlemen’s pullovers, one light-grey and the other fawn check; a khaki lumber jacket; two fawn and grey fleecy - lumber jackets ; a gentlemen’s grey sweater with zip-fastener ; a blue choker jersey; six pairs of sports trousers of various colours, about size 4; a fawn rug with stripes ; four boxes of assorted ties ; thirty-six gentlemen’s white handkerchiefs ; three light silk scarves of various colours in squares ; a lightblue scarf; twelve pairs of woollen and silk socks; a Butler safe, 20 in. by 15 in. by 15 in., containing a bank depositbook ; a wages book; two ledgers ; and some account books ; a post-office savings-bank book, Hamilton, showing a credit balance of £llß in the name Joan Munro Halkett; a chequebook on the Bank of New Zealand,, Putaruru, containing cheque-forms from No. 477329 to 477360 and blue serge coat and trousers, about size 6, made by Deleun, . Tailor, Rotorua: total value, £54. Identifiable. At about 1.30 a.m. on 26th ultimo the following described motor-car was driven away from near the shop by two men: A 1936 model five-seater maroon Chevrolet sedan.

Hamilton. —Between the 18th and 19th ultimo, from a room at the Hampton Court Boardinghouse, the property of RUPERT CLARENCE SOWERY, Waiotu, Hikurangi, a fibrecane suit-case, 24 in. by 18 in., containing a military hairbrush in leather case, “ R.S.” on back of brush ; a pair of new black shoes, size 6 ; a Gillette safety-razor ; a shaving brush ; a blue shirt, size 3 ; and two pairs of socks : total value, £5. Identifiable.

Tokomaru Bay. 23rd April last, from a room at the men’s quarters, Puketiti sheep - station, the property of THOMAS CALDWELL, a gentlemen’s silver Revue wristletwatch, No. 57767, oyster back, sports model (no wrist-strap); value, £5 ss. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Dick White (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-six, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, fresh complexion, reddish sandy hair; wearing grey sports coat, grey trousers, and heavy working boots. He was at the station when the offence was committed, but left shortly after, carrying his swag.

Palmerston North. —During the night of the 25th May last, from their kennels, the property of ROY DAVENPORT HASELDEN, Tiritea, a black smooth-haired collie sheepdog, age eight years, yellow and white on face, chest, lower parts of legs, and on tip of tail, answers to name “ Nick” ; and a black border collie bitch, age twenty months, white on face, chest, and on tip of tail, answers to name “ Eay ” ; due to whelp on 7/6/38 : total value, £BO. Identifiable.

Complainant’s motor-car was unlawfully- removed from Manchester Street, and later the same day it was recovered in Lichfield Street, but the property described above had been stolen from it.
