Kaitaia. —On oi about the 24th December last, on warrant for theft of £l2O, the property of Jane Prosser, Commerce Street, Hugh Wilson, age fifty-nine, height 5 ft. 9 in., builders’ labourer and concrete worker, native of Australia, strong build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, artificial teeth, one upper tooth slightly chipped ; dressed in a navyblue suit, grey felt hat with turned-up brim, grey cloth overcoat, and black shoes (size 9), and wears a thin gold watchchain from button-hole in lapel of coat; walks splay-footed and with a slight stoop ; wears glasses when reading ; fond of liquor smokes a pipe. On the 20th June last he induced Mrs. Prosser, who is a widow, to give him £l2O for safekeeping, and although she repeatedly asked for its return to her she has been unable to get it. On the 24th ultimo he left Kaitaia with all his effects, and it is thought that he may endeavour to leave this Dominion.

Matamata. —4th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s bicycle (recovered), and a gentlemen’s silver-coloured metal watch with aluminium-coloured round dial (twenty thin gold-coloured lines on dial from numerals'“ 12 ”to “ 6,” “ Westclox ” and “ Dax ”on dial): total value, £2 Bs. Gd., the property of John Charles Hemingway, Hinuera Road, Tom Clark, age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, Maori, strong build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes ; dressed in a grey suit and tan shoes (no hat) ; quiet speech. Ohakune. 23rd ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Truman Wiltshire, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 6£ in., labourer and clerk, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, curly dark hair, brown eyes, scar on tip of right forefinger. He is charged that “on 23rd December, 1936, at Ohakune, did forge a cheque, No. A. 66027, for £ls, dated 23rd December, 1936, purporting to be drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, llaetihi, by W. S. Baird.” He obtained three blank cheque-forms from complainant, Nos. A. 66027 (recovered), A. 66025, and A. 66026, and obtained £l4 in money and goods from Catherine Maud Bolstad, confectioner, by means of the above-mentioned forged cheque for £ls. At midnight he was located on the train for Wellington, and he delivered over £ls, but got away before the police arrived. There are other charges pending. G. Nops in favour of P. Miles. The cheque was from the cheque-book of Mr. Nops, which was stolen from his office about the 2nd ultimo. Accused left Inglewood on the 12th ultimo accompanied by his wife. Her description is as follows : Age twenty, height about 5 ft., medium build, fair complexion, black hair which has been waved ; dressed in a dark dress and light-fawn coat. Ashburton. 27th November last, on warrant for theft of a horse (recovered), value, £9, the property of Norman Lewis Moore, Eiffelton, Leslie Hosking Watson, age thirtyeight, height about 5 ft. 7 in., horse-trainer, native of New Zealand, medium build, brown hair turning grey, anchor on one forearm ; dressed in a grey jacket, light-grey trousers, and soft felt hat. Complainant gave the horse to accused to sell at an auction sale, but not to sell for less than £9. He could not get that price for the horse at the sale, but he subsequently sold it privately for £6 10s., and disappeared with the money. He may be working in a shearing-shed. He is also wanted on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Helen Annie Lucinda Watson, and six children, at Tinwald.
