MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION.

Circular No. 10/35.] Travelling-allowances. With reference to paragraph 6 of Circular No. 0/3l (Police Gazette, 1931,, page 708), it has been decided Drat as /< from Ist instantnlembers of the Force travelling/6n duty ( . overnight by teem or steamer shall be granted an allowance /• of 2s. per night to cover incidental expenses/dther than the cost of regular meals. s' W. G. Wohlmann, Commissioner of Police. Wellington, 3rd December, 1935/ (P. 31/1482.)

Memorandum.] Rewards to Police Officers for securing Conviction of Persons breaking Telegraph Insulators. The following memorandum received from the DirectorGeneral, Post and Telegraph Department, dated 23rd November, 1935, is published for general information : f £2 2s. to police officers obtaining convictions against persons y*Y for breaking telegraph insulators. The practice was discontinued owing to the urgent need for reducing departmental expenditure at the time. “ In April, 1933, the payment of rewards in the Greymouth // Police District was reinstated on account of the number of ' insulators wilfully broken in the West Coast district of the South Island being unduly heavy. “ The number of breakages still occurring is so great that it has now been decided to reinstate throughout the whole Dominion the system previously in force of rewarding police officers securing convictions. No doubt you will see fit to convey this decision to all members of the Police Force, and in doing so it would be appreciated if you would urge upon them the valuable service that will be rendered by vigilance in this connection. Not only does the cost of replacing damaged insulators reach a considerable sum annually, but the interruption of communication that may be caused by a broken insulator may have very far-reaching consequences.” W. G. Wohlmann, Commissioner of Police. Wellington, 28th November, 1935. (P. 35/1527.)

Circular No. 9/35.] Scale of Pay. Consequent upon the 7/ per cent, increase of pay authorized by the Finance Act, 1935, the following scale of pay and allowances to members of the Force will take effect from Ist August, 1935.
