Accused purchased a chequebook at the National Bank of New Zealand, Shortland Street, containing twenty-four cheques, Nos. G. 323017 to G. 323040, He gave the name B. Spitz. He later tendered one of the cheques, No. G. 323017 for £7O, payable to B. Silver, and forged the signature of Barnett Spitz, draper, 202 Eden Terrace. The cheque was not cashed. Accused may be an associate of Charles Grace, alias Gumm, referred to in Police Gazette, 1932, page 119, and Photographs, 1925, page 73. No warrant.

About 4.20 p.m., whilst Gladys Hibberd was returning to the Karitane Factory, Melrose, with the wages for the employees, she was assaulted by accused, who robbed her of the following property : A navy-blue fibre attache-case, about 12 in. by 10 in. by 5 in., brown lining, three small greasespots on inside ; a wages-book. with dark-brown cardboard cover ; a petty cash-book, with red cover, the leaves of which are ruled in one column, and one sheet is marked “ Confirmation of Orders ” ; and £45 ss. 9d. in cash, consisting of three £5 notes, twenty £1 notes, nine 10s. notes, £5 14s. 9d. in silver, and Is. in coppers.
