INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.

Sydney (Australia). — the 14th December last, Alexander Frederick Barrie was murdered in his home at 1 Windsor Street, Paddington, by two men. The identity of one of the offenders has been established as William Theodore Wanton, alias William Moreton, alias Maxwell, alias J. Shaw, alias Charles Bann. Description: AguTwenty-six, hSJglrfc about ,5 fOmii., labourer, strong build, fresh to medium complexion, oiled brown hair, hazel eyes, full face, thick lips, one upper front tooth gold-filled, white pivot tooth in left front upper jaw, front teeth slightly open-spaced, scar above corner of one eyebrow (believed left), chubby hands, short fingers ; smart appearance ; active gait. He may be accompanied by his brother, John Tasman Manton, alias Basil Tasman, age about twenty-nine, height about 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, dark complexion and hair. Should they or either of them be located they are not to be questioned, but an urgent communication is to be sent to the Commissioner of Police Wellington, in whose office finger-prints and a photograph, believed to be those of the offenders, are filed.
