Circular No. 20/30.] Payment of Expenses of Witnesses at Inquests. With, reference to Regulation No. 302 (fifth paragraph), it has been arranged with the Justice Department that all witnesses (except medical witnesses) and jurors at Coroners’ inquests shall in future be paid from Imprest by the Police on the certificate of the Coroner, and the vouchers scheduled to the Justice Department to charge. The present scale of payment to witnesses at inquests is fixed by regulation published in Police Gazette, 1928, page 215. The rate of payment to jurors, when it is necessary to summon a jury, is set forth in Police Gazette, 1923, page 100. A special voucher form (Coroner for the payment of the witnesses’ expenses has been printed, and supplies of same may be obtained on requisition from the Government Printer. The present form (Coroner —16) will continue to be used for the payment of jurors. Circular No. 2/09 is hereby cancelled. W. G. Wohlmann, Commissioner of Police. Wellington, 18th October, 1930. Memorandum.] Unemployment Act, 1930. By the Unemployment Act, 1930, every male person (with certain exemptions) of the age of twenty years or upwards resident in New Zealand is, under a penalty of £SO, required to register at a Post-office where forms of application for registration are obtainable.
