Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), age about thirty-six, pale complexion, dark hair; dressed in a navy-blue suit and black hat.

Auckland. 9th September last, the property of WINFIELD JAMES THORNE, labourer, 102 Newton Road, a black-leather wallet, containing two £lO notes and two £5 notes ; total value, £3O 2s. 6d. Wallet only identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Mary Neary, alias Clark, age fifty-five, height 5 ft. 34 in., prostitute, native of Denmark, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, dark-blue eyes, mole on check, scar on forehead. The wallet was stolen from complainant whilst he was drunk in the suspect’s house. She has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 74.)

Howden, Jeweller, Security Buildings,” posted at Carterton ; a registered letter, No. 105676, addressed “ Mr. Moses, 28 High Street,” posted at Te Kuiti: a registered letter, No. 105680, addressed “ Alfred Mason Griffiths, 8 Durham Street,” posted at Coromandel. Suspicion is attached to Two Men (names unknown) —(1) age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, auburn hair dressed in a dark-grey or brown suit and grey cap ; well spoken ; good appearance : (2) height about 5 ft., medium build, pale complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved; dressed in a blue suit and dark-felt hat. The bag and about 150 letters were found in lavatories.

Te Aroiia. —Between the 18th and 28th ultimo, from a bedroom at Lennard’s farm at Waihou, the property of PATRICIA RAMSAY, domestic, a dark-brown vanity handbag, about 10in. long; a ct. gold wishbone brooch, set with a ruby in centre ;. a 15 ct. gold circle brooch, with “ True Love ” on it, set with four amethysts ; an 18 ct. gold bamboo bangle, with broken safety-chain attached ; a plain gold armlet; an 18 ct. gold neck-chain ; a 9 ct. gold neckchain ; and an 18 ct. gold pendant, set with three amethysts and four emeralds, with a drop pearl attached : total value, £l7 17s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Edward Dye, age twenty, height 5 ft. 2 in., farm hand, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, dark-brown hair, blue small eyes ; neatly dressed in a blue-serge suit and slate-coloured-felt hat; well spoken ; fond of horse-racing. Frankton Junction. 3lst ultimo, from the railway-sta-tion, the property of JAMES PASSMORE, care of Donaghy’s ropeworks, Auckland, a suit-case and other articles (recovered); a nickel curved spirit-flask, with “To Jim from H B T 18T0 - 24 ”in monogram on it; and a Gillette safety razor in a wooden box : total value, about £6 ss. Wanganui. — lst instant, from a motor-car in St. Hill Street, the property of FRANCIS CHERNSIDE HOGG, Liardet Street, New Plymouth, a brown-leather bag, about 20 in. long, with a silver plate on one side, containing a pair of flannelette pyjamas ; a clothes-brush; a crocodile-skin case containing a shaving-outfit (including two white-handled Bengal razors); a rolled-gold curb, fetter, and three or four oval double watch-chain, with a 9 et. gold medal with “S.C.M.R.A.
