MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION.

The late Constable James Dorgan, No. 1764.

With commendable esprit de corps the Inspector, noncommissioned officers, and men of the Force at Timaru propose to erect a suitable headstone to the memory of the late Constable Dorgan, who was shot dead while in execution of his duty on the 27th August ultimo. It is estimated that the sum of £IOO at least will be required for the purpose. They confidently appeal to all members of the Force to subscribe the cost; and ask for a minimum subscription of 3s. from each person. In approving of the proposal, I trust that as all share alike in the credit which the action of Constable Dorgan manifestly reflects upon the Force, so every member of it will consider it a privilege to share in the credit of erecting a monument to his memory.

Lists have been circulated with an intimation that subscriptions are to be sent to the Inspector’s Office in each district.

J. O’Donovan, Commissioner of Police. Wellington, 26th September, 1921.

Bailiff of Magistrate’s Court appointed. Constable Frederick Wade, Ngaruawahia.
