'/ .-C 'Jf — 1 '■*" f - Onehunga. — l4th ultimo; on warrant of commitment for failing to maintain his wife and three children and to lodge £3O with the Public Trustee as security, James Murray, age forty-two, height 5 ft. 1 in., labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes; dressed in a brown suit and cap. On the 17th January last accused was ordered to pay £3O to the Public Trustee to ensure his obedience to a maintenance order. He paid £5 into Court and disappeared. Thames. — 3rd instant, on warrant for theft of a singlebarrelled gun (recovered), value £3 35., the property of William McKee, farmer, Turua, Edward Millward, age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, medium build, dark hair and complexion, brown or grey eyes ; dressed in a grey suit and tan shoes. Accused stole the gun from C. Ansford’s farm, and sold it to Percy-Firth, ferryman, at Wharopoa. Othpr charges pending.

Te Kuiti. —3rd ultimo, on two warrants for failing to appear at the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court in answer to a summons, and illegally keeping liquor for sale and bringing unlabelled liquor into a proclaimed area, Ernest Charles Lewis, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., bushman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes ; dressed in a blue suit and a black-velour hat.

Taumarunui. — 2sth January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for twenty-four hours in default of paying Bs. fine and costs for drunkenness, Patrick Burke, age thirty-six, height 5 ft'. 8 in., labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes; dressed in' a dark suit and dark-felt hat. §

Wanganui. —lsth ultimo, on warrant for breaking and entering Alexander Healey’s shop and stealing therefrom nine cheques, Nos. P 25886 to P 25894 (cheque No. P 25892 recovered), 3s. 6d., and ss. worth of stamps, J. Reid, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, thin features ; dressed in a brownish suit and softfelt hat; unhealthy appearance. Accused secured the key of the shop and stole. the cheques he forged the name “E. Hyland ” to the -recovered cheque for £lO, and endeavoured to cash it at Taihape. On the 17th ultimo he presented it to a railway guard on the Wellington Express in payment of his fare. He may be identical with Rowland Reeves, age eighteen. ‘cJ&f§

Palmerston North. —10th instant, on warrant for theft of a rug (recovered), value £3 10s., the property of Duncan Bennett, farmer, Awahuri, James Nash (name probably fictitious), age forty, height 5 ft. 4fin., labourer, native of Australia, stout build, fresh complexion, black hair; dressed in a dark suit and soft-felt hat. Accused stole the rug from complainant’s motor-car in Church Street, and sold it at Penkeith’s second-hand shop for 7s. 6d. He is identical with Louis Harold Rowe, alias Lowe, referred to in Police Gazette, 1921, pagekß2,and/Effiotograplis, page 7.

Martinborottgh. —lsth instant, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for one month in default of paying £25 2s. 6d. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his daughter, Eileen Me Anally, an inmate of St. Joseph’s Orphanage, Upper Hutt, Charles McAnally, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 104 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, auburn hair, - blue eyes. He usually wears a ring with an eagle on it on his left little finger.

Wellington. 2nd instant, on warrant for wilfully disobeying the lawful commands of an officer of the s.s. “ Kumar a,” Charles Coombe, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 4 in., trimmer, native- of Scotland, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, scar on one jaw; usually dressed in a dark-grey suit and cap ; slightly stooped.

Wellington. —l7th January last, that he may be brought before the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, for sentence on a charge of false pretences, William Frederick McMurray, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 8J in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair and eyes, scar on right cheek. On the 2nd July accused was ordered to come up for sentence if called on within two years for false pretences, and to refund £2, which he has failed to do. (See Policy Gazette, 1920, page 436.) No warrant.

Wellington.— Bth instant, on warrant for theft of a gold watch and chain (recovered), value £ls, the property of Archibald Benjamin Harmah, steward, A. Myers (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, clean-shaved, thin features ; dressed in a dark suit and light soft-felt hat; Greek appearance. The watch was stolen from the stewards’ quarters on the s.s. “ Maori,” and pawned at Dexton’s pawnshop, Courtenay Place.

Wellington. 9th instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £l6 7s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Reina Bradley is the mother, Albert Carpenter, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, brown hair. Greymouth. —l3th January last, on warrant of commitment to Greymouth Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £2 7s. fine and costs for being illegally on premises, Thomas Johnston, alias Timothy Jones, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 10J in., fireman, native of. England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, , grey eyes, one tooth missing from left jaw.

Christchurch. 9th December last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £3 balance of arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife and children, Ernest John Braid, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., tailor, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, tip of one thumb missing ; walks quickly ; fond of horse racing ; smart appearance. Christchurch. —June last, for failing to comply with the terms of his release upon probation, James Ronald Miller, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, swarthy complexion, black hair, grey eyes. Accused was admitted to one year’s probation at the Supreme Court on the 4th March last for theft, and he has not reported to the Probation Officer since the 28th May last. No warrant.

Christchurch. —31st January last, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 Bs. fine and costs for theft, Robert McLean, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 6J in., engineer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved, scar on nose; flower om left forearm. Christchurch. —12th distant, on warrant for theft of a double-barrelled breech-loading gun, Bonehill make, value £lO, the property of George Gibbs, Kaikoura, Archibald Robert James Braid, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, blue eyes. Lyttelton. 3rd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Stewartstar,” Robert Tasker, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 10 in., trimmer, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes. He is also wanted for landing in this Dominion without taking the oath of allegiance.
