Ponsonby.—29 th June last, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address may be instituted against him, Mervyn Bernard, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 9 in., nurseryman, native of New' Zealand, slight build, ruddy complexion, fair hair, brown eyes, short moustache ; excitable ; smart appearance ; fond of drink.
Auckland.—2Bth ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Amelia Walsh, 24 Leighton Street, John Francis Walsh, age fifty-five, h ight 5 ft. s|in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, lightbrown hair, blue eyes, large nose; clasped hands, rose, shamrock, and thistle, on right forearm ; pierced heart on left forearm. Arrears to 21st November last, £4l Bs. 6d. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 683.) .
Auckland. —During the night of the 20th instant, the following persons escaped in a boat from the Inebriates’ Home on Rotoroa Island : (1) George Arthur Thompson, age thirty-four, height sft. 7in., steward, native of Scotland, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, coat-of-arms on rig lit forearm (see Police Gazette, 1917, page 702) ; and (2) Valentine Payne Mawer, age twenty-two, height 5 it. 9in., engine-driver, native of New Zealand, strong build, clean-shaved, grey eyes, short hair on top of head, scar on right arm; diessed in dark clothes and military overcoat (see Police Gazette, 1917, page 716).
Auckland. —2lst ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Alph Douglas Grant, aee forty-one, height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of India, stout build, sallow complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, mole on right side of neck ; usually dressed in a light-grey suit and cap ; wears glasses ; a fluent speaker, and represents himself to be a land agent at Te Awannitu. Accused obtained a £5 note and a cheque for
£lB 2s. from (Mrs.) Jean Carter, proprietress of the Mansions Boardinghouse, by means of a valueless cheque for £25, which he tendered in payment of £1 18s., due for board. The cheque for £lB 25., which he obtained was subsequently tendered by him to Thomas Richard, licensee, Terminus Hotel, Onehunga, who cashed it. Tauranga. —26th July last, on warrant for false-pre-tences, James Ryan, age about twenty-seven, height about 6 ft., labourer and flax-cutter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair (long in front), clean-shaved ; usually neatly dressed in a blue-serge suit and tweed cap ; fond of drink and quarrelsome when under its influence. Accused, who was employed by the Tauranga County Council, obtained £2 17s. 9d. from that body by falsely representing that that amount was due to him as wages for four and a half days’ work.
Napier. —6th December last, for failing to maintain his wife, Henry Duncan Campbell, age thirty-one, height sft. 2in., ex-jockey, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair hair, clean-shaved ; fond of drink. Complainant, Mary Campbell, 2 McDonald Street.
Feilding. —Bth ultimo, that a summons for holding a performance without a permit (Feilding By-laws) may be served upon her, Matilda Barton, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 2 in. She owns a circus, with which she travels about the country.
Pahiatua.— lsth ultimo, that a notice of fine for failing to register may be served upon him, Charles Strom, age fifty-seven, height 5 ft. 10£ in., labourer, native of Sweden, strong build, ruddy complexion, fair hair, blue eyes; speaks good English. (See Police Gazette , 1919, page 58.)
Wellington. absent from the s.s. “Transocean,” without leave, A. J. Klink, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., seaman, native of Denmark, medium build, ruddy complexion, fair hair, blue eyes,
Wellington. —3lst August last, on three warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for twenty-one days (seven days on each) in default of paying (1 and 2) 10s. fine on each for assault, and (3) £2 fine and costs for assault, Harry Reahu, age twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 11 in., mentalhospital attendant, aboriginal, strong build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, broad nose.
