DESERTERS FROM HIS MAJESTY’S SERVICE

Freeman’s Bay.— 23rd May last, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, George Lawrence Johnstone, alias George Duncan Lawrence Johnstone, alias William Ropp, &c., age twenty - nine, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and cook, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes; anchor and heart on left forearm; flowers on back of left hand; right little finger contracted. Auckland.—4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Harry Wilson Henderson, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. in., bushman.

Auckland.— 23rd May last, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, Clifford Tadman, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 10 in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, grey eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 462.)

Kawhia. —7th ultimo, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Timi Hakato, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, aboriginal, medium build, copper complexion, black hair.

Te Kuiti.—2lst May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Taka, alias Ben Mahutu, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, aboriginal, strong build, copper complexion, curly black hair, brown eyes.

Gisborne. 4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, James Patrick Dwyer, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 7fin., bushman, native of Australia.

Gisborne. —27th February last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Leonard Charles Rossiter, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 8 in., gardener, medium build. He has been injured with caustic and arsenic.

Gisborne.— 4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Stanley Wall, age thirty, height 5 ft. 10J in., labourer, medium build, fair oomplexion, light-brown hair.

Wairoa. —4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Donald Dunn, age thirty-two, height 6 ft., labourer, native of Scotland, stout build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair; usually dressed in a grey suit; erect gait.

Stratford. 2nd instant, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, Charles Bernard Mills, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 10 in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes.

Manaia. —2sth February last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, John Bert Thompson, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 4Jin., farmer.

Taihape. —3oth January, last, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, William Joseph Lee, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion, auburn hair, light-blue eyes, scar on left side of forehead and chin.

Wanganui. —Bth May last, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, Richard Hayes, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion.

Palmerston North. —4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Arthur William Henry O’Neill, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 7 in., cook. He is believed to have had one leg amputated, and if that is the case he is not to be arrested.

Masterton.— 4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, John Page, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion and eyes, darkbrown hair and moustache ; usually dressed in dark clothes ; fond of drink.

Carterton. —Bth May last, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, Jeremiah Courtenay, age thirty, height 5 ft. 6 in., barman, native of Ireland, fair freckled complexion, curly light brown hair, clean-shaved.

Petone.—4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Robert Green, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 7 in., fireman.

Wellington. —4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Joseph Brown, age thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., seaman.

Taranaki Street (Wellington). —4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medicai examination, William Donnelly, age thirty, height sft. Bin,, fireman, native of England.

Greymouth. — 31st May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Donald Phillips, alias Nesbitt, age twenty-two, height about 5 ft. 9 in., electrical engineer and lathe-worker, slight build, fair hair and complexion, long face, clean-shaved; erect gait; smart boyish appearance.

Greymooth. —3lst May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medioal examination, George Regan, age twenty, height 5 ft. 7Jin., labourer and sawmill hand, native of Tasmania, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 232.)

Christchurch. —4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Len Benson, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., moulder,'medium build, fair oomplexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, thin features.

Christchurch. 4th April last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Mark Poison, age twenty - three, height 5 ft. in., teamster, fair complexion, curly fair hair.

Methven. —3lst May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, John William Campbell, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in. He may be identical with man of same name referred to in Police Gazette, 1917, page 566.

Ashburton. —3lst May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Thomas Yallance Affleck, age thirty-two, height 6 ft. l£in., farm labourer.

Ashburton.—3lst May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Duncan Albert Caldow, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 6 in., farm labourer.

Ashburton.—lsth April last, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, Arthur Huia Read, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., engine-driver, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes. He may assume the name George Read.

Arrowtown. —lßth May last, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, Gilbert Charles Patton, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and blacksmith, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion and eyes, dark-brown hair, clean shaved; usually dressed in a dark or brown suit, and cap worn well down over forehead ; larrikin appearance. He may be accompanied by his wife and child.

Temuka. —31st May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, George Cole, age forty-two, height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes ; slovenly appearance ; fond of drink.

St. Andrew’s.—3lst May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Herbert Edward Grainger, age about forty-three, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of England, sallow complexion, brown hair and eyes.

Duntroon. —Bth March last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Thomas Park, age forty-two, height 5 ft. 9in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion, fair hair turning grey, blue eyes, clean-shaved; fond of drink. He is incorrectly shown in Police Gazette, 1917, page 586, as having been arrested.

Glenavy.—3lst May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, John Allfrey, alias Alfred Heissenbuttel, age forty-seven, height 5 ft. 9£in., labourer, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, scar on inside of left shin; slovenly appearance; fond of drink. Dunedin. —23rd April last, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, William Joseph Dunn, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, florid oomplexion, dark-brown hair.

Otautau. —3lst March last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, George Wilson, age about forty, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, ruddy complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes.

Invercargill. —3lst May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Tom Casey, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer.
