DESERTERS FROM HIS MAJESTY’S SERVICE.

From the New Zealand Expeditionary Force

Queen Street Whare (Auckland). military warrant for deserting from the 31st Reinforcement, Albert Asher Brown, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 10 in., waterside worker, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, scar on left breast and on left shoulder.

Waihi. — James Healey, deserting from Expeditionary Force : It has been ascertained by the Wellington police that accused’s correct name is Thomas Healy. The original warrant has been cancelled, and a fresh warrant issued for his arrest for failing to proceed to camp. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 655.)

Hamilton.— l4th ultimo, on military warrant for deserting from the 27th Reinforcement, Michael Francis O’Grady, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 11 in., bushman, native of Australia, strong build, fresh complexion, darkbrown hair, grey eyes.

Ohakune.— 2sth July last, on military warrant for deserting from the 30th Reinforcement, Eli Whiteley, height 5 ft. 10 in., farmer, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes.

Taumarunui.—l2th July last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Thomas O’Neil, age twenty-seven, height 6ft. Jin., labourer and bushman, native of New Zealand, slim build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar under right eye. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 82.)

Napier. —2sth October last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Patrick James Cunningham, age forty, height 5 ft. 8 in., motor-driver and stableman, medium build, brown hair, full bloated face ; usually dressed in a brown suit and grey oap ; fond of drink.

Hastings. —2sth October last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Ernest Tonkin, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 7J in., insurance agent, native of Australia, scar on one leg.

Hastings. —2sth October last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, John Henry Walton, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in.

Ongaonga. —2sth October last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, John David McKenzie, age twenty-six, height 6ft., labourer, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, clean-shaved.

Wanganui. —Bth ultimo, on military warrant for deserting from the 16th Reinforcement, Edward Crase, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 8 in., miner, medium build, brown complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes. Next of-kin, Simon Crase (brother), Ngakawau, Westport.

Wanganui. 4th May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Alfred Frank Tozer, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., waiter and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, sharp features ; usually dressed in a dark suit and very high double collar ; fond of dancing.

Wanganui.— l7th October last, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, John Andrew Logan, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 11 in., bushman, sallow complexion, brown eyes.

Marton.— 2sth October last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, William James Richardson, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 9^in., farm labourer, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair.

Marton. —25th Ootober last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Robert Wilson, age forty, height 5 ft. 3 in., farm labourer, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair ; usually shabbily dressed ; of weak intellect.

Marton. —4th May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Norman Dwyer, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. ljin., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, clean-shaved.

Woodville. —l4th ultimo, on military warrant for deserting from the 29th Reinforcement, Albert Herbert Hewitt, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, green eyes. Next-of-kin, Mr. A. H. Bull (friend), Rongotea, Peilding. He may be in possession of a bicycle, value £6 10s., the property of Dick Hall, which is believed to be stolen. Palmerston North. —22nd October last, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, Patrick Dally, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. BJin., labourer, medium build, ruddy complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, scar on nose.

Shannon. —l7th October last, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, Patrick McNicholl, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 7 in., flax-cutter, native of Ireland, slight build, dark complexion, curly black hair, grey eyes.

Shannon. —2oth ultimo, on military warrant for deserting from Featherston Camp, Norman Porter, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 10 in., motor mechanic, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes; “ Kia Ora,” horse’s head over scroll with dagger through it on right forearm.

Masterton. —2sth October last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, William Williams, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 7 in., wool-roller, good build, fair oomplexion.

Masterton. —2sth October last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medioal examination, Francis Keller, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., shearer, native of Australia.

Upper Hutt.— H. Chapman, deserting from Expeditionary Force: A warrant has now been issued for the arrest of accused. His correct name is Harry Chapman. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 408.)

Wellington. — Joseph Hood, deserting from Expeditionary Force: It has been ascertained by the Auokland police that he is now living at 180 Commonwealth Street, Sydney, New South Wales. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 671.)

Wellington. — 4th July last, from a New Zealand reinforcement at Albany, Michael Cleary, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 11 in., farm hand, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes. He was last employed by Hudson Munro, Kurow. Next-of-kin, Mrs. C. Cleary (mother), polioe-station, Cambridge. (P. 15/699/39.)
