SPECIAL INQUIRY.
Wairoa.— On the Bth ultimo Henry H. Mortensen found the body of a newly-born male half-caste child floating in the Wairoa River ; it was in a pillow-slip with “ J. Hickson, Wairoa Hotel,” on it. A post-mortem examination of the body revealed the fact that the child had breathed for a short period, and at an inquest the jury found that the cause of death was neglect at birth. Hescription: Age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 6 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion, black hair, brown almond-shaped eyes; usually laughs when spoken to; a half-cast Maori.
