Auckland.—l6th January, 1914, on warrant of commitment to military custody for fourteen days in default of paying £3 138. fine and costs for a breach of the Defence Act, Frederick McKearney, age twenty-four, height sft. 7in., fireman, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, round shouldered.

Auckland.—23rd September, 1914, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 Is. arrears of maintenance due for the support of her daughter, an inmate of the Children’s Home, Ada Alice Pinkerton, nee Hainsworth, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 9 m., cook and housemaid, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes ; dresses well, and usually wears a veil.

Auckland. —27th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £4 2s. 6d. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, W. E. Between the 3rd January last and the 16th ultimo accused received from divers persons sums of money amounting to about £l2 on terms requiring him to account for or pay the same to his employers, the New Zealand Laundry Company (Limited), but did fraudulently omit to do so.

Auckland. —On or about the 4th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a yacht (recovered), value £l2O, the property of Prank Barker, Alfred Henry Skelton, alias Westlake, age twenty-nine, height about 5 ft. 6 in., fisherman, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair, curly in front; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit and blue cap with a leather peak.

Hamilton.— 2oth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, David Andrews, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 3 in., restaurateur, native of Greece, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a browntweed suit and straw hat. Accused obtained goods to the value of £lO 10s. from J. H. Dalton, tailor, by means of a valueless cheque. He is accompanied by a woman, supposed to be his wife, and is believed to be identical with Dennis Andrews, referred to in Police Gazette, 1912, page 496, and Photographs, page 49.

Kawhia. — 26th January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for assault, William John Wade, alias William Brady, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair (thin on top), blue eyes; usually dressed in riding-pants and leggings, dark coat, and cap. Rotobua. —Between 8 p.m. on 6th and 8 a.m. on 7th instant Alfred Robert Curtis escaped from Kaingaroa Prison Gamp, age about twenty-four, height 5 ft. 7Jin., labourer and commission agent, native of New Zealand, thin build, small sharp features, fresh complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, scar on right middle finger, left middle finger stiff. Tolaga Bay.— sth December, 1914, on warrant of com mitment to Tolaga Police-gaol for seven days in default of paying £2 15s. fine and costs for helpless drunkenness, Frederick Barton, age twenty-nine, height sft. Bin., labourer and cook, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair (going bald), grey eyes, long thin face, decayed teeth, “F” on left forearm; usually dressed in a brown suit and grey-tweed cap ; very talkative ; fond of drink.

New Plymouth. —l4th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Arthur Edward de Grunday Tronson, age twenty-seven, height sft. 6in., hawker and oanvasser, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes (inflamed), hollow beeks, tombstone on one forearm, scar on one foot; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit, light-green-felt hat, and tan shoes; surly appearance.

Hawera. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, W. C. Hodgson, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 6 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, dark reddish complexion, dark hair; usually dressed in a brown suit and a black softfelt hat. Accused obtained goods and cash to the value of £2 10s. from Stanley Osborne Johns, Normanby, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount, on the Bank of New Zealand, Eltham, in favour of “ Self. ’

Wanganui. Dan O’Brien, murder. Accused was seen at Whangamomona on the 6th October, 1914, and said he had come from the west coast of the South Island. He is described as having small eyes, and a heavy dark drooping moustache which is turning grey, and was then wearing dungaree trousers and a muffler round his neck. Mabton.—2nd instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, Cecil Arthur Wilson, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 7in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion and hair (going bald), blue eyes, tattooed on both arms ; smart gait. Complainant, Ada Annie Brand.

Dannevieke. —4th instant, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Two Men (names unknown). First: Age about thirtv, height about 5 ft. 6in., clean-shaved, fresh sunburnt complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, wearing a light-fawn overcoat and a soft-felt hat. Second : Age about thirty, height about 5 ft- 8 in., medium build, fair moustache; dressed in a brown suit, and wearing a hard bat. He was oarrying an umbrella and a brief-bag. Both identifiable.

Ferguson had rubber stamps made in Wellington prior to the Wanganui races, where a similar fraud was successfully carried out to the extent of £166 19s. Palmebston Nobth. —25th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, William Gunn, age sixty, height 5 ft. in., traveller, native of England, medium build, fresh oomplexion, brown hair turning grey, grey eyes and beard ; usually dressed in a blue suit and hard black hat. Accused obtained Bs. 6d. from William George Gard, hotelkeeper, Bunnythorpe, by means of a valueless order for £1 on Paul Bock and Co., Auckland, (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 720.)

Tenui. —24th ultimo, on two warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for— (1) fourteen days in default of paying £2 fine for vagrancy, and (2) forty-pight hours in default of paying 10s. fine for drunkenness, Peter Butler, alias Clancey, age thirty-seven, height sft. lin., labourer and cook, native of England, medium build, fair complexion and hair, anchor on left forearm, star on back of left hand, deformed feet.
