PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland.—l6th January, 1914, on warrant of commitment to military custody for fourteen days in default of paying £3 138. fine and costs for a breach of the Defence Act, Frederick McKearney, age twenty-four, height sft. 7in., fireman, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, round shouldered.

Auckland.—23rd September, 1914, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 Is. arrears of maintenance due for the support of her daughter, an inmate of the Children’s Home, Ada Alice Pinkerton, nee Hainsworth, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 9 m., cook and housemaid, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes ; dresses well, and usually wears a veil.

Auckland. —27th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £4 2s. 6d. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, W. E. Schwabe, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion and hair, blue eyes; usually dressed in a dark suit and soft-felt hat.

Auckland. —25th ultimo, on warrant for theft as a servant, Llewellyn Allan Wood, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 9 in., carter, native of New Zealand, slim build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes (cataract in left one), slightly round shouldered ; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit, soft dark-felt hat, and brown boots. Between the 3rd January last and the 16th ultimo accused received from divers persons sums of money amounting to about £l2 on terms requiring him to account for or pay the same to his employers, the New Zealand Laundry Company (Limited), but did fraudulently omit to do so.

Auckland. —On or about the 4th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a yacht (recovered), value £l2O, the property of Prank Barker, Alfred Henry Skelton, alias Westlake, age twenty-nine, height about 5 ft. 6 in., fisherman, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair, curly in front; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit and blue cap with a leather peak.

Hamilton.— 2oth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, David Andrews, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 3 in., restaurateur, native of Greece, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a browntweed suit and straw hat. Accused obtained goods to the value of £lO 10s. from J. H. Dalton, tailor, by means of a valueless cheque. He is accompanied by a woman, supposed to be his wife, and is believed to be identical with Dennis Andrews, referred to in Police Gazette, 1912, page 496, and Photographs, page 49.

Kawhia. — 26th January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for assault, William John Wade, alias William Brady, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair (thin on top), blue eyes; usually dressed in riding-pants and leggings, dark coat, and cap. Kawhia. —26th January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for assault, Michael Joseph Sheahan, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, hazel eyes; usually dressed in a dark-brown suit and a soft-felt hat.

Rotobua. —Between 8 p.m. on 6th and 8 a.m. on 7th instant Alfred Robert Curtis escaped from Kaingaroa Prison Gamp, age about twenty-four, height 5 ft. 7Jin., labourer and commission agent, native of New Zealand, thin build, small sharp features, fresh complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, scar on right middle finger, left middle finger stiff. Tolaga Bay.— sth December, 1914, on warrant of com mitment to Tolaga Police-gaol for seven days in default of paying £2 15s. fine and costs for helpless drunkenness, Frederick Barton, age twenty-nine, height sft. Bin., labourer and cook, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair (going bald), grey eyes, long thin face, decayed teeth, “F” on left forearm; usually dressed in a brown suit and grey-tweed cap ; very talkative ; fond of drink.

New Plymouth. —l4th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Arthur Edward de Grunday Tronson, age twenty-seven, height sft. 6in., hawker and oanvasser, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes (inflamed), hollow beeks, tombstone on one forearm, scar on one foot; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit, light-green-felt hat, and tan shoes; surly appearance.

Hawera. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, W. C. Hodgson, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 6 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, dark reddish complexion, dark hair; usually dressed in a brown suit and a black softfelt hat. Accused obtained goods and cash to the value of £2 10s. from Stanley Osborne Johns, Normanby, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount, on the Bank of New Zealand, Eltham, in favour of “ Self. ’

Wanganui. Dan O’Brien, murder. Accused was seen at Whangamomona on the 6th October, 1914, and said he had come from the west coast of the South Island. He is described as having small eyes, and a heavy dark drooping moustache which is turning grey, and was then wearing dungaree trousers and a muffler round his neck. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 587, and 1915, page 144.)

Mabton.—2nd instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, Cecil Arthur Wilson, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 7in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion and hair (going bald), blue eyes, tattooed on both arms ; smart gait. Complainant, Ada Annie Brand.

Dannevieke. —4th instant, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Two Men (names unknown). First: Age about thirtv, height about 5 ft. 6in., clean-shaved, fresh sunburnt complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, wearing a light-fawn overcoat and a soft-felt hat. Second : Age about thirty, height about 5 ft- 8 in., medium build, fair moustache; dressed in a brown suit, and wearing a hard bat. He was oarrying an umbrella and a brief-bag. Both identifiable.

These men presented forged tickets to the totalizator clerk at the Dannevirke races. A man giving the name H. Ferguson had rubber stamps made in Wellington prior to the Wanganui races, where a similar fraud was successfully carried out to the extent of £166 19s. He answers the description of the second man above described.

Pobangahau.— 22nd ultimo, on warrant for failing to make adequate provision for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Percy William Burgess, age twenty-eight, height 6 ft. lin., drover, native of New Zealand, good broad build, light-brown hair, blue or grey eyes, full face, scar on bridge of nose, weight about 15 stone ; usually dressed in a blue-serge suit and green-felt hat. Complainant, Mabel Elizabeth Simms.

Palmebston Nobth. —25th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, William Gunn, age sixty, height 5 ft. in., traveller, native of England, medium build, fresh oomplexion, brown hair turning grey, grey eyes and beard ; usually dressed in a blue suit and hard black hat. Accused obtained Bs. 6d. from William George Gard, hotelkeeper, Bunnythorpe, by means of a valueless order for £1 on Paul Bock and Co., Auckland, (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 720.)

Tenui. —24th ultimo, on two warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for— (1) fourteen days in default of paying £2 fine for vagrancy, and (2) forty-pight hours in default of paying 10s. fine for drunkenness, Peter Butler, alias Clancey, age thirty-seven, height sft. lin., labourer and cook, native of England, medium build, fair complexion and hair, anchor on left forearm, star on back of left hand, deformed feet. Wellington.— 2lst December, 1914, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £5 ss. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, Joseph Flanagan, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer and jeweller’s assistant, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes.

Wellington.— 24th ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Ruahine,” J. White, age thirty three, height 5 ft. 10 in., A. 8., native of England, strong build, dark complexion, curly black hair, brown eyes, soar on right forefinger.

Wellington.— 9th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £lO ss. arrears due on a maintenance order for the supoort of his two children, William Carl Frederick Anderson, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 11^in., fireman, native of New Zealand, medium build, ruddy complexion, brown hair and eyes, turned-up nose, scar on left ear; usually dressed in a brown suit and tan boots.

Wellington.— sth January last, that he may be induced to communicate with his mother, James Lawrence Callon, age fifteen, height about 5 ft., good build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grev eyes ; good appearance. Complainant, Alice Norris, 302 Tinakori Road.

Nelson. —lst March, 1913, that she may be compelled to maintain her daughter, Olive Leone, an inmate of St. Mary’s Industrial School, Nelson, Margaret Leone, age about thirty-two, height about 5 ft. 8 in., domestic, native of New Zealand. She was last heard of in 1913 in the Wairarapa district. ’ Inquiry by the Education Department.

Waiuta. — 28th October, 1914, that a summons may be served upon him for a breach of the peace, George Adams, age about thirty-three, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, medium build, dark complexion and hair, prominent nose ; usually well dressed in a dark suit, light overcoat, and hard bat; fond of gambling.

Lyttelton.— 3rd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Ruahine,” Henry Stock, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., trimmer, native of England, slight build, fair complexion, auburn hair, grey eyes.

Lyttelton.— 3rd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Ruahine,” Edward Solomon, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. lljin., fireman, native of Levuka, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, girl and two flags on chest, ship and two flags on left arm, sailor on right arm.

Christchurch.—-30th June, 1914, that he may be subpoenaed as a witness in case Police v. McDonald, theft, Harry Mathewson, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, strong build; dark complexion; well educated.

Christchurch. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for theft of £55 7s. 5d., the property of George Greswell, secretary, Veterans’ Association, Henry John Boakes, height about sft. 6in., medium build, dark complexion and hair; usually dressed in a blue-serge suit and dark-tweed cap. Between the Ist January and the 10th February last accused received the above sum of money on terms requiring him to account for or pay the same to George Creswell, but did fraudulently omit to do so.

Ashburton. —26th January last, that he may be located and warned that if he fails to comply with the terms of his release upon probationary license he will be arrested and returned to prison, Arthur Doughty, alias Herbert Hall, age forty-two, height 5 ft. 4Jin., labourer and groom, native of England, sallow complexion, black hair turning grey, blue eyes, oblique nose, “Lionel 29T109” on right forearm. Ashburton.— 29th May, 1914, on warrant of commitment to military custody for twenty-eight days in default of paying £3 10s. fine and costs fora breach of the Defence Act, Henry Thomas Hyland, age twenty, height 5 ft. 9Jin., grocer’s assistant,? native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, grey eyes ; smart appearance; erect gait; a good runner and swimmer.

Oamaru.— 4th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Hesperos,” Kristen Olsen, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 10 in., fireman, native of Norway, medium build, fair complexion, dark hair, blue eyes.

Oamaru. —4th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Hesperos,” Walfrad Gilberg, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., fireman, native of Norway, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes.

Oamaru. - 3rd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Hesperos,” Kairsten Arvesan, age thirty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., native of Norway, medium build, brown hair.

Oamaru. —3rd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Hesperos,” Tonnes Tonnesen, age thirty, height 5 ft. 9in., medium build, round fat face, fair hair.

Oamaru. —3rd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Hesperos,” Bars Olsen, age twenty-two, height sft. 6in., fireman, native of Norway, medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes.

Oamaru.— 3rd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Hesperos,” Harold Ludvigsen, age twentyfour, height 5 ft. 7 in., fireman, medium build, light-brown hair.

Oamaru.—3rd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Hesperos,” Eugen Sandstrom, age twentyeight, height about 5 ft. 9 in., brown hair.

Oamaru. —3rd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Hesperos,” Eniar Radian age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., trimmer, native of Norway, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, eyes supposed blue.

Dunedin. —13th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, John Selwyn Hordern, age about forty-five, height 5 ft. 4 in., horse-trainer and jockey, native of New Zealand, slight build, sallow complexion, fair hair turning grey (thin on top), blue eyes; usually dressed in a light-grey suit and soft-felt hat or grey cap. Accused obtained a gold watchchain and ss. in cash from Arthur John Shaw, jeweller, Rattray Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £6, on the National Bank, Riverton. He is wanted on a similar charge at Winton. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 160.)

Dunedin.—6th July, 1914, on warrant of commitment to military custody for twenty-one days in default of paying £3 10s. fine and costs for a breach of the Defence Act, Colin Albert Fairbirn, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 10fin., carter, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. Dunedin. —Ist ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for three months in default of paying £lB 10s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his three children, Robert Powell, age forty, height 5 ft. 7J in., labourer and bricklayer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, light-grey eyes, large mouth, sailing-ship on right forearm, scar on left hand.
