INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
England.— lnquiry requested for Herbert A. Potvine, alias Temple, age about fifty, height about 5 ft. 7 in. or Bin., architect and surveyor, fresh complexion, thin build, wears Imperial and moustache (may be clean-shaved), hair curly at neck, quiet pleasant manner, well educated, and an accomplis-hed aitisfc in crayons. He left Maidstone, England, on 23rd March, 1906, and arrived in Auckland on 13th May same year by the s.s. “ Manuka ” He is said to have a woman with him, passing as his wife, named Geneva Bolwell, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 5 in., auburn hair, small build, Roman nose, a good pianist. Potvine’s son is now in Auckland, inquiring as to his father’s whereabouts. (See Police Gazette, 1906, page 319.) (11/20.)
Sydney. —The New South Wales police advise that forged notes on the Commercial Banking Company, Sydney (Limited), are in circulation in Sydney, and an attempt may be made to utter them in New Zealand. Tnose uttered are £5 notes No. C 367002, dated Ist July, 1908, purporting to be signed by F. C. McCutcheon and countersigned Tiiomps m. The following descriptions have been given by people on whom the notfs have been passed: First, a Man about twenty-seven years or age, sft. 5 in. or 6 in. high, thin build, fair hair and complexion, clean-shaved, thin face ; dressed in grey-tweed suit and grey soft-felt hat; respectable appearance. Second, Man, age about thirty-five, height sft 5 in., slight build, light ginger moustache only, florid complexion, ginger hair, red nose, sharp features; dressed in light striped coat and vest, blue - serge trousers, black Romeo boots, and large brown Baden Powell hat. Third, Man, age about forty, short stoutish build; well dressed in brown-tweed suit, lace-up boots. The notes were passed on Edward Conrich and Michael O’Haieher, hotelkeepers. (P.P.B. 16/11.)
