INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Sydney. —lnquiry requested by the State Labour Bureau, Sydney, for Thomas Hanlon, that he may be induced to refund £4 advanced him on 20th April last, as steamer fare to Auckland. Description: Age forty-six, height about 6 ft., labourer, thin build, long thin features, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, dark moustache, may be cleanshaved ; poorly dressed in dark clothes, and wears a black hard hat. He was engaged by Messrs. J. J. Graig at their sheds on the Railway Wharf, On the sth May last he was injured, and sent to the hospital, and was discharged on the Bth May, and was seen in Auckland on the 10th ultimo. He is now said to have shipped for England. (09/1687.)
Sydney. —A warrant has been issued by the Central Police Bench for the arrest of John Henry Richards, charged with wife-desertion (indictable offence). He is thirty-five years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, rather stout build, dark complexion, black hair, grey eyes, heavy dark moustache (may now be clean-shaved), large nose, good teeth (one in side of upper jaw gold-capped) ; a chemist; dresses well. He left Sydney in March, 1907, supposed for New Zealand. Complainant, Lily May Richards, 11 Abercrombie Street, Sydney. (See New South Wales Police Gazette, 1909, page 319.)
Newtown (New South Wales). —A warrant has been issued by the Newtown Bench for the arrest of Arthur Walton Cummings, charged with wife-desertion. He is twenty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. or 6 in. high, stout build, fair complexion, clean-shaved ; dressed in a green or grey suit and green oap; a boot-clicker. Complainant, Kate F. Cummings, 5 Fitzroy Street, Newtown. (See New South Wales Police Gazette, 1909, page 211.) Offender is supposed to have come to New Zealand. His brother inlaw, Herbert Victor Fraser, resides in John’s Road, Woolston. Inquiry through the Christchurch police.
Perth. —Stolen from the residence of William Liowrie, on the 17th August last, a ladies’ gold half-hunting watch, “ M. L.” engraved on outside case, a gold chain bangle with cornelian attached, “ W. E. L.,” “ L. M. K.,” engraved on inside ; a heavy gold brooch set with an emerald and two pearls; a butterfly brooch set with pearls and sapphires, chain attached; a silver fob chain dipped in gold; heavy gold neck-chain ; a gold short neck chain, with one long and four small links alternately; a gold locket, shell-shaped, ruby in centre ; a black and gold mourning-pin; a ladies’ gold ring, Indian-silver setting, with cluster of small rose diamonds ; a gold three-bar ring, set with a ruby; a gold ring, set with a row of pearls. Holland. —Inquiry requested by the Netherlands Consul, Wellington, for Karel Ulrich Treuman, age twentyfive, no further description given. He wrote to his mother in Holland from Albany in 1908, and it is thought he may have come to New Zealand. (09/2100.)
