PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. —Between 24th January and sth February last, from the scow “ Hawk,” property of JOHN OLSEN, seaman, a gold cable-pattern watch-chain, short links, with drop of three or four links from the bar; value, £5. Suspicion attached to— Smith, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 8 in,, supposed seaman, native of New Zealand, thin build, long thin features, dark hair, sallow complexion ; dressed in dark clothes and cap; anchor tattooed on one arm. His parents are supposed to reside in Wellington.

Auckland. —Between the Ist and 13th ultimo, from the bedroom of ANNA STOUT, Glenalvon Boardinghouse, five pairs of ladies’ long white gloves ; a large Chinese-silk shawl, grey and white mixture : value, £5 12s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —2nd February last, from the bedroom of JANE SAUNDERS, boardinghouse-keeper, Hobson Street, a half-moon gold brooch, engraved at ends, plain in centre; a gold-mounted greenstone brooch, thick at one end and tapering to a point at the other : value, £4. Identifiable.

Whitianga. —2nd or 3rd instant, from the bedroom of JOE BANIYICK, gum-digger, a gentlemen’s silver Waterbury watch; value, £3 15. Suspicion attached to Jack Duffy, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 9 in., packer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion.

Woodville.—9th ultimo, from a railway-carriage between Dannevirke and Woodville, property of ANDREW JOHN McLAUGHLIN, farmer, Temuka, two pairs of new overshoes, sizes 7 and 9 ; a pair of grey underpants ; a nearly new Panama hat, “ A. J. Me.” perforated in leather lining, complainant’s name written in indelible-ink pencil on inside of leather lining, and “ H. 8., Christchurch,” also stamped on it: value, £1 lss.

Palmerston’North. —l7th April last, supposed from the luggage-van of the train between Palmerston North and New Plymouth, property of Miss C. BARRY, school-teacher, a hat-box, containing a ladies’ open-faced gold watch, No. 2781, monogram “C. E. B.” on back, value £10; a gold muffchain, fancy pattern, value £4; a neck-chain with topaz pendant attached, value £1 10s.; a gold-mounted greenstone pendant, representing a shamrock, value £1 10s.; a gold-mounted photo, pendant, value £1 ; a gentlemen’s short chain, very old pattern, heart attached, value £1 10s.; a gold dagger brooch, set in pearls, value £2 10s.; a gold pin with an amethyst set in it, value £3 ; a gold pin, with shell pendant attached, value 15s. All the jewellery was in a green jewel-case, 8 in. by 6 in. by 3 in. A black hat, with ostrioh-feathers, value £2105.; a boa made of black and white ostrioh - feathers, value £2 10s.; two white-silk blouses, value 15s. each; a black-silk blouse, value £2; several print blouses, value 3s. each : a black Eton coat, value £1; a pair of button-up shoes, size 5, nearly new, value 14s. : total value, about £36. Wellington. —2sth ultimo, from the dwelling of RICHARD HENRY NAGLE, Hataitai, a plain heavy gold band ring, wider at front than back; gold granny chain pattern resembling hollow cylinders ; gold bar brooch, bee in centre, opal back, pearls on wings, ruby eyes; greenstone and pearl brooch, dagger-shaped, and greenstone heart attached; plain narrow gold band bracelet set with opal; ladies’ silver-mounted green-leather purse; ladies’ silvermounted brown-leather purse, “ I. K. C.” on shield ; tea-set, electro-plated, floral design, tea-pot, sugar-basin, milk-jug; tea-set, electro-plated, afternoon Queen Anne; sugar-basin, electro-plated, coal-scuttle pattern, maiden-hair design; toast-rack, eleotro-plated; butter-dish, electro-plated and cut-glass, shaped like a shell, fluted on bottom ; silver jamdish ; salad spoon and fork, cut-glass handles; cruet-stand, electro-plated, to hold four bottles; hair-brush, silver back, figure of child and poppies on it ; silver-back comb; silver shoe-horn; silver pin-tray; jewel-case, electro-plated, lined with pale-blue silk; cut-glass smelling-salt bottle: total value, £26. Supposed identifiable by owner. Suspicion attached to Edward Packard Black (see Police Gazette, 1907, page 474), Omrigo Tolly (see Police Gazette, 1908, page 71), and Charles Cannon (see Police Gazette, 1907, page 41). Entrance was effected by breaking a window and opening a fastening during the absence of the occupants between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Westport. —2lst October last, from the s.s. “ Arahura,” property of JOHN GILLS, Westport, a portmanteau containing a black-cloth sac suit; an old and a new pair of men’s lace-up boots, size 9; two white shirts ; a razor ; a gold and a silver band-contest medal, “J. G.” on them: value about £B. Identifiable.

The suspect was seen shortly after the theft with several sovereigns and a purse answering the above description, and expressed his intention of going to Dunedin.

Christchurch. —18th or 19th March last, from the shop of WILLIAM GARRARD, gunsmith, Manchester Street, a double-barrelled second-hand shot-gun, No. 12 bore, had bean newly stocked, maker Gibbs; five boxes No. 22 revolver-cartridges; two boxes No. 16 cartridges, central fire : value, £5 17s. 6d. Gun identifiable. Entrance effected by breaking a large pane of glass in the rear of the building.

Donedin. —-23rd April last, from the shop - counter of THOMAS SCANLON, storekeeper, Hanover Street, a ladies’ small well-worn sealskin handbag, value 2s. 6d., containing about £1 ss. in mixed silver.

South Dunedin.— 2oth instant, from Charles Petterson, labourer, South Dunedin Gasworks, a gentlemen’s English lever hunting-watch, No. 70312, maker Young and Co., Dunedin, “C. P.” scratched on case; a ladies’ double gold chain, small links, ring clasp, and fob chain attached : value, £6 10s. Suspicion attached to Martin Hughes, ags twentythree, height 5 ft. 7in., labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, brown hair, clean-shayed freckled face. The vest from which the articles were stolen was lying on the ground, and the suspect was seen close to them shortly before they were missed.
