Burglary, Breaking and Entering, Theft from Dwellings, Shops, &c.

Auckland. — A man, name unknown, is charged on warrant with attempting to break and enter the warehouse of John George Buchanan, jewellery importer, Albert Street, on the Bth instant. Description : About twenty-eight or twenty-nine years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. or 6 in. high, stiff build, dark moustache ; dressed in dark trousers, three-quarter coat, and hard black hat. He was accompanied by a man who was arrested by Acting-Detective H. P. Kennedy. Another charge pending of breaking and entering the premises of Massey Bros.

Auckland. —Abraham Moss, bookmaker, Dunedin, reports stolen from the Royal Hotel, Victoria Street, on the 4th instant, a black three-quarter coat made of very light vicuna cloth, cuffs on sleeves, sack back, lined with black satin, small V-shaped piece of black satin on each side of collar, “L. Warsaw, Dunedin,” on inside of collar; value, £lO 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. — William Geraghty, contractor, reports stolen from the billiard-room of the Victoria Hotel, on the 18th ultimo, a greenish-grey overcoat with brown-velvet collar, slight tear in coat near the neck-chain, a tear in right-hand pocket, and a neatly darned tear on the bottom of the coat at the back ; value, £1 15s. Identifiable.

Mastekton.— Krahagen and Chapman, tailors, report that on the 17th or 18th instant their shop was broken into, and two pieces of brown worsted Cheviot cloth stolen. One piece contained 12g yards, marked on tab “ 4800—H ” ; the other, 6§ yards, marked “4800—A.” Value, £lO 14s. Identifiable.

Picton. —Nathan J. Hall, electrician, reports stolen from the Federal Hotel, on the 6th instant, a Kodak camera, 6 in. by 5 in., black leather, containing twelve films, seven taken—one of Daniel Love’s oil-launch at Waikawa, another of oillaunch “ Huia ” in Lyttelton Harbour; value, £7 10s. Identifiable.

Kaikouka. —Max Barak, travelling jeweller, reports stolen from his bedroom in the Club Hotel, on the sth instant, a new silver English lever hunting-watch, makers Lancashire Watch Company ; value, £6. Identifiable.

Walter Ellis, William Abbott, Lawrence Murphy, and William Clark, carpenters, report that a toolhouse in Melville Street was broken into on the Bth or 9th instant, and the following stolen : A pair of scribing-com passes, four twist bits, a rabbit plane (“ W. Ellis ” on it), and a keyhole saw, the property of W. Ellis; value, £1 10s. : a set of twist bits, a crosscut Disston saw, a ratchet brace, two chisels, and a keyhole saw, the property of L. Murphy ; value, £2 ss. 6d. : a scribing-compass, a ljin. chisel, and a 3 ft. rule, the property of W. Abbott; value, £1: a keyhole saw and a pair of scribing-compasses, the property of W. Clark ; value, 10s. All identifiable.

Caversham. —Jeannie Muir, Main Road, reports stolen from her dwelling, between the 10th and 14th instant, a ladies’ gold Waltham hunting-watch, No. 4657027, “From M. M. to J. M., 91,” engraved on outside case ; and a wicker chair : total value, £l3 ss. Identifiable.

Gore. —Robert Reid, labourer, reports stolen from his hut, on the Bth instant, two £5 notes, Nos. 262306, 383450 or 103323; one £5 note and two £1 notes, numbers unknown : total, £l7.
